Thanks to my friends Wolfgang and DerEineSchwarzeRabe for helping me with writing this script!
In this video, I share a spoiler-free look at several sequels in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, and explain different ways that they use sound effects to intensify gameplay! There are many ways a sound can become "intense," and each game has something unique to highlight! Hopefully I can deliver all this info concisely, before all the animatronics in this video make their way into my studio...

You think it isn't loud during the day? That thing is always loud to me, but I also don't like outputting a lot of loud sounds. To me, it has to be toilet paper. That stuff seems very loud to touch during the night. But it could be a larger part of dragging your fingers or/and hands along surfaces, as that is what is loud with toilet paper. During the day, it may be a lot less noticeable.

I’m sure someones mentioned this already, but I’d like to point it out anyways. Since our antagonist in fnaf 3 is William Afton, the infamous “purple guy” who murdered the children, this plays in to the balloon boy sounds. When you play the audio clips, it lures springtrap away from you. It’s not very chilling until you think about the fact that you are trapped in a small building with a child murderer who will only go away from you when he hears the noises of children laughing or saying “hello”. Springtrap is *LITERALLY* following the noises of *CHILDREN* *AT* *PLAY*, believing he has more prey to capture, lives to alter, birthdays to ruin, parents to concern, etc. he’s still the same man he was before death.
@anlkucuk6756
@anlkucuk6756 Жыл бұрын
Partially. You see, there is a mechanism in the spring bonnie suit that makes it go to where the children are. And it does that by sound cues. Whenever the suit hears children's sounds, it immediately follows to that location. So its more like spring bonnie suit overrides what William wants to do when there are children's sounds nearby
@dominicballinger6536

Either way, it's pretty unnerving to think that Afton, willingly or not, is lured by the sounds of potential victims
@UgleBeffus
@UgleBeffus 9 ай бұрын
@@anlkucuk6756Exactly. Spring Bonnie wasn't designed with Balloon Boy's audio in mind, so while the fnaf 2 animatronics would be able to recognize that he isn't a real child and therefore wouldn't follow his voice when a room goes quiet, Spring Bonnie only hears a child. William Afton isn't possessing the suit; he's possessing his own corpse. The suit is its own separate entity and can move of its own accord, despite where William might be trying to make it go.
@zenoluvswof9936
@zenoluvswof9936 7 ай бұрын
@@UgleBeffusWhich makes the idea of Springtrap more unsettling. He is fully aware, of where you are and that you are watching him, and he knows that the sounds of balloon boy laughing aren't real. I think weirdly enough, a good amount of these principles can be found with Subnautica’s Reaper Leviathan given the circumstances that you encounter them. The Dunes and the Crash Zone, the most common places to find Reaper Leviathans both lack substantial ambience music. They’re extremely quiet so you can listen for the distant roars of the Leviathan to detect if they are nearby since the biomes themselves are too murky for you to spot them. Then, having the eerily quiet ambience suddenly interrupted by that same deep roar you’ve heard in the distance, but clear instead of muffled; thousands of times louder; and much longer (signifying that the Reaper is now chasing you), instills a sense of panic that even usurps some horror games.

De-intensifying a sound : In FNAF security breach When you're being chased by Moondrop, you're not their first priority. It's more important for them to clean up the mess you made. So, your only chance of survival, as stealth isn't an option, is to knock down as many things as you can to buy time in order to activate the 5 emergency generators. So if you hear their creepy voice, saying, with an angry tone, « Clean up...! » then you're safe. But if you hear their sweet voice saying « Goodnight » then you haven't made a big enough mess, and you're their next target. You need to jump down, making you vulnerable, to knock something down so you have time to knock something else down. The animatronic is faster than you, but it cleans up slower and you clean down faster. So, hearing « Clean up...! » means you still have enough time. However, if instead you hear, say, « Bad children should be punished ! » then you instantly know that you've got to run.

Yet fnaf 1 power out is still more terrifying than almost the entirety of fnaf sb. This is because fnaf sb doesnt force you to completely focus on sound, however fnaf 1 does. An example of this is Freddy's laugh or the pots and pans in the kitchen. What makes it even more effective is red hearings, they can make you lose focus on the stuff you SHOULD be focusing on and that is why fnaf 1 (made in 2014) is better than fnaf sb (2022)

This video is a genuinely really good example about how absence of jump scares in horror media can make the whole thing feel not only less cheesy/campy but also makes it scarier in a way because of the “when is it gonna happen?!” anxiety This video is a super good analysis that manages to be a little spooky, while not being so overly scary that it distracts from the message, well done 👏👏

You reminded me of the SL begining-day and end-day sounds, how they're cherry and different from the rest of the atmosphere, but I also love how they abused your expectations for those sounds on night 4 by completely removing the end-day sound from night 3 and rolling right into the day 4 startup jingle, and instead of thinking something like "here we go again" that jingle turns into a "wait excuse me??" feeling that I thought was very well done. Not sure if that qualifies as sound intensity or just subversion of expectations but still it left a mark on my memory of the series.

This is such a great video! The little 'story' of you explaining this to us so the animatronics didn't get to you was amusing, the visuals were great, the intro was funny, and all of the information was detailed and interesting. I also loved that you added the bit at the end about accessibility. I've never played the FNAF games myself because I'm a wimp (lol) but I love watching people like Markiplier play them. FNAF 4 was impossible for me to even watch because I'm hard of hearing and therefore missed all of the audio cues. Mark would freak out and slam the door closed and I wouldn't know why. The jumpscares were coming from nowhere! The other games had a better contrast and I could hear things well enough that I knew what was going on, but I still know that discerning them all in real time and reacting based on that would be extremely difficult

What do we learn from the FNAF series? FNAF 1: Pay your power bills on time FNAF 2: Never be at the workplace alone FNAF 3: Sketchy electronics are dangerous FNAF 4: Don't bully your peers/siblings FNAF 5: Don't listen to or follow strangers FNAF 6: Don't collect trash as an everyman. the one thing I didn't like about FNaF 4's sound mechanics, is the fact that to hear the breathing, you had to crank your volume really high, and if you failed to hear the breathing and make a poor judgment call, then you would be blasted by a very, very, loud scream that I swear, if wearing headphones, would give you hearing damage
@coleprovost6973
@coleprovost6973 2 жыл бұрын
That's what makes it amazing. To have your best chance of surviving, you must risk the intensity of the thing you fear the most. The sounds intensity is increased. Thus making the experience FAR more tense.

Even if I've watched the two fnaf videos multiple times throughout the past four or five days, I'm still replaying it. His voice is so calming for some reason. His word choice and reactions make everything satisfying to listen to as well, and the way sound makes horror games even better is fascinating to me. I hope there are a lot more fnaf videos in the future. I LOVE YOUR CONTENT.

What a genius way to present these points and explanations. Not only do you explain how and why it's scary, you also have created a scenario within the video that allowed you to express tension, sucking us, the viewers, into the tension in a harmless but awesomely interactive and enriching way.
