Great in-depth explanation as usual, Danny. I think it's BS how McLeod strongly recommends balancing their product, yet just doesn't do it from factory. With shipping and what they'll charge you, it'll easily add a few hundred dollars to the cost of an already expensive clutch - and then the time and hassle you have to deal with shipping. McLeod is the only clutch I know that doesn't sell you a clutch ready to go. I wish I would have know this before I bought mine, I'll see how it treats me.

Great comparison. I got mine as an open box item off from American Muscle and saved a decent amount then sent it back to McLeod to be balanced. I’m sure a lot of people miss this step and never get it done and then complain about how it performs later on

Do you know if they balance only the flywheel or attach the entire kit to be balanced as a whole?

I have a McLeod 8 bolt steel flywheel that I got balanced when my motor was built for my 03 GT. The whole rotating assembly was balanced. I have since bought the RST organic 26 spline clutch to go with it after upgrading to a TR 3650 Lashbrook trans. I hope the clutch and flywheel will be ok together as they were not bought as a set like yours. What problems, if any, could I expect?

To run the clutch kit with another flywheel it should come with the adapter plate/ring, so make sure it has that. I could not find anyone in town who would balance my flywheel, so after seeing it had been “zero balanced” from the manufacture before it was added to the kit makes me think it should be okay. Probably the same with yours. Just see if you get any vibrations when it’s all said and done.

Interesting, I never saw anywhere in the McLeod instructions that my flywheel wasn’t balanced from the factory. I guess this is why my RST and almost everyone else I’ve heard install a McLeod twin disc gets chatter at lower engine speeds. Mine sounds nasty right about 1900 rpm. I don’t understand why they would sell a flywheel that’s not balanced at the factory.

Yeah, it’s on the cover sheet of the instructions. Might just be a way to remove any blame cause I called around and no one will balance mine. It should be balanced against the crank is what they tell me, so I’ve thought about measures to spin the assembly before mounting the transmission behind it, but don’t want the clutch discs moving out of place without the input shaft holding it. Clutch chatter in each gear when shifting is normal on any new clutch. My mach 1 shook the steering wheel when it was new. I wonder if ford wears ir down from the factory since new cars aren’t like that

Until then, I have the retainer sleeve video that pretty much shows it. You just need to check the end play with the new input shaft when the cover is installed. It has to be .002-.000 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6TEgHWFrptqnpY
