Nas is truly the goat of the rap game. He dropped 6 albums in 3 years even though he's like 30 years into his career, and he hasn't missed ONCE. This is the greatest late-career comeback of all time in music, and we've witnessed it only in the last couple of years. Now about this track with Weezy: I personally think it's one of the best tracks off of this album, but I've seen people say that Wayne's verse was actually underwhelming, which is just crazy to me. Edit: spelling corrections.

NAS is the 🐐 man, to me he encompasses everything that makes you great at hip hop better than anyone ever has, and went head to head with Jay beating him down every time until Jay quit after he responded to the take over with Ether. He was the guy hip hop heads loved in my young days following Hieroglyphics and Mos Def around the country, or even the hippie group Phish because the Roots were opening for them. To me him and Jay were the first to be relevant enough to make lyricism cool among the majority of those listening to rap and not just hip hop heads, or at least they made it part of the conversation. Before them everyone gave it to Pac because he sold more, his personality and look, and because he had the greatest voice to ever rap. I mean to this day I don’t think anyones had a better sounding made for rap voice then Pac, but after NAS and Big you began hearing some people say “yea but Biggie was a better lyricist”, and while to often it’s credited to Eminem the truth is it was Jay, Nas, and death row records that brought rap music to white America, they were the first to really make rap music popular outside of just Black America where it had its own radio stations, record labels, being incorporated into movie soundtracks, and began the growth of hip hop to where it’s now the most popular music genre. And among them all, NAS was the most lyrical, was really the one main stream guy that hip hop heads or guys who loved back pack rappers really loved, yet was still relevant enough commercially to be included among Jay, Dre, Snoop and Pac that brought hip hop into the mainstream. Anyway, I love Wayne, he’s top ten to me, maybe even top five (I’d need to think about it), but NAS is the goat.

@andywhite1119 Cap. Nas verse was better than Lauren Hill. Nas and hit boy gave Eminem more space and time on the record and a beat switch. Eminem was rapping about silly crap that didn't have to do with the track for the most part. Good punchlines by silly too. None of these rappers could tell a story backwards like Nas did on Rewind.

@shiewhun1772 Жыл бұрын
Scru's a real craftsman, it's apparent. Someone who's tuned in to the existence of multibar punchlines vs. one liners is someone who is pretty solid at writing them himself. Lil Wayne pioneered this, I think. And Wuntayk Timmy took after him and really goes Super Saiyan with it. Wuntayk has a song "Bloody Mary". He had 52 bars (I counted) of the same rhyme scheme - which was set up to be a continuation of a Lil Wayne verse where Weezy's whole verse was also of the same rhyme scheme. So eventually, that was around 80 bars in total - same rhyme scheme. Think about how many things you can rhyme with "two combined", then go listen to "Bloody Mary", you find at least 79 things can rhyme with "two combined".
