Ex HMAS Brisbane
History:
The HMAS Brisbane was a Charles F Adams Class DDG guided missile destroyer of approx 5,000 tons. She was commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy in 1967, and served Australia for 34 years, until she was decommissioned in 2001. The HMAS Brisbane served in both the Vietnam and Gulf War and assisted on a number of humanitarian missions such as the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy in Darwin.
In January 2003, the Queensland Government agreed for the scuttling of the HMAS Brisbane off the Sunshine Coast as an artificial reef and dive site.
After careful preparations, the ship was finally towed to the Sunshine Coast. With the expertise of a crew with extensive background in scuttling ships to create artificial reefs. Explosives were placed in wooden frames on the inside of the ship, below the waterline.
On 31 July 2005, to the east of Mudjimba Island these explosives were detonated. In only 2 minutes and 10 seconds the former HMAS Brisbane found her final resting place in 28 metres of water

This was an awesome dive! Does Sunreef offer double tanks? This could be a great dive site for a tech (extended) dive.

Not so impressed with SunReef. I've had basically 3 attempts to dive the ex HMAS Brisbane through SunReef and all failed to eventuate. The first first attempt was about 2 years ago and perhaps I can accept that most of it was my fault because I was not aware of some stringent medical certificate requirements - although that point could have been made more prominent in the promotions for the dive. The second attempt was, again, understandable since it was cancelled due to unfavourable weather. The third attempt was a "tentative" booking made for a few days after the second attempt, that depended on the number of participants. That was also cancelled for the sole reason that there were only two participants for that day, which fell short of the minimum four as decreed by their inflexible policy. Obviously that policy was due to profitability issues and to some extent that can be understood. However, its stringent application took no consideration of the fact that I flew from Melbourne with most of my equipment for the express purpose of diving the wreck. In other words, the fact that I spent money & wasted time to go on that dive counted for absolutely nothing. There was no problem in obtaining a refund for the prepaid fee. Again, my choice of timing to go on that dive was not optimal but very little, if any, information was provided to warn people of the higher tendency for unfavourable weather around that time of year and how that can impact on the possibility of going ahead with a dive. To me, that reflects the low level of customer service and consideration, resulting in a very spoilt one week's vacation. There's a barrage of information on the web about the dive - most of it is promotional. As with most advertising, most of the important information that can impact on their customers' arrangements tend to be relegated to the fine print and couched in legalese. To me, that's a good way of losing customers. At least in my case, I'll not be seeking the services of SunReef anytime soon.

Thank you for the message about your experience. In reviewing the comments. Sunreef has maintained within their policy and the standard policies set within the dive industry. Medical questionnaires which lead to the requirement of a medical clearance from a doctor is required as a liability coverage and is set out by industry standards. I have seen the emails sent out which does state this in the booking confirmations. This is with every dive centre that follows industry standard rules. Weather is unpredictable and out with the control of the operator. There is no real time when weather is best or optimal as it can turn in a day. We have worked for dive centres all over the world. Every centre we have worked at has had the minimum number of 4 customers to run a trip. At 4 customers you are break even due to fuel costs, overheads and crew costs. No reasonable business is going to run loss making trips. We are sorry you haven’t had luck on getting to dive the Brisbane when coming up from Melbourne and hope you will one day. Stay safe and keep diving.

@@BlueHorizonDiving With regards to the medical clearance, I stated that I had no issue with the requirement other than the suggestion to emphasize the requirements prominently. With regards to the weather, again, I stated that there was no issue other than to emphasize that weather conditions at certain times of the year will result in more frequent cancellations. I have dived in a number of places including Thailand, Bali, Fiji and Vanuatu and in a number of these locations, I went for a dive even where there were less than 4 participants. You want to adhere to your policy at ALL costs - that's your prerogative. You mentioned all of costs associated with keeping your business afloat, which is nothing new and a standard response, but you didn't mention my costs in coming up and wasting my time, other than to offer your "apology". In doing so, you've certainly lost me as a customer, but then that's no major concern to you and your hope of having me come up for that dive will most certainly not eventuate. I will stay safe and keep diving, but not with SunReef.

Thank you for expressing your concerns, Sunreef is a seperate business to Blue Horizon Diving. While we appreciate feedback, feedback about the dive operations should go to Sunreef themselves. We really appreciate you watching our videos!

@DF-cl5bm 6 ай бұрын
@@BlueHorizonDiving If that's the case, then why did you respond the way you did to my first comment?
@BlueHorizonDiving
@BlueHorizonDiving 6 ай бұрын
The reason why is you are placing these comments about another operator onto our content. Most people will take these comments against our business not them online. We support the industry as a whole and will always justify diversity industry positions. Our response is reasonable and just. We also do contract work with them as well from time to time. If you had an issue, as advised you should be advising this onto their profiles and not onto our profiles.
