The 'Oosterschelde' was never a fresh water river. It always was salt water directly connected to the North Sea. By installing the 'closable' dam system it stayed like it was with a slight difference in the tides. The dam creates some resistance. When the water is too high during springtide or storms the dam is closed.

Nick, what's your dad's age and how "seasoned" a diver is he (How many years diving?)? I am a 70 year old technical drysuit/sidemount diver who has been diving since 1979 (44 years) and am pleased to say my son (46 years old has been a great dive buddy since 1991 (32 years, i.e., whenever he wasn't deployed during his Navy career ... now retired from Active Duty service ... like me and and increasingly available to dive with me 🙂). By the way, LOVED your under-ice images from your Lake Superior certification dives! Hope to dive with you sometime soon whether cold water or tropical!

Nice work as always mate 👌 Also can I ask a question - what's your view on air integration, a good or bad idea? Personally, I am working on lowering my SAC and find the post-dive stats from AI are helpful.

I just saw the edited question now. Personally I don't use AI but I definitely think it's a useful tool. I'd still always recommend an analogue gauge as backup but AI can definitely provide good data!
