Cameron's sub was built by the best and they took every precaution possible. He had the best team of engineers and experts and would meticulously go over the tiniest details such as washers made from one material vs another. Almost a borderline fanatic when it came to safety and protocols which is what you want when it comes to exploration. NatGeo was a partner with him and dedicated an entire issue to his dive, so if you can find it, it's pretty amazing since it shows you the schematics of the sub. Stockton Rush? Bough his lights from Camper World and ran his "sub" with a wireless Logitech controller. 🙄

the only thing that can rescue them is a drill ship that can somehow tether to the titan, people say that a second submersible could have saved them, this is incorrect, the second sub could assist in an entanglement or a power failure to relay messages, i.e, it would help the mothership or cost guard to locate them, but it wouldn't be able to lift them from the sea bed if the power was out, neither would it be able to do anything if there was a hull breach.

what boggles the mind is how life at those insane depths handles those pressures with just bones and flesh and moves around like its normal
@PalmerHinchliffe Жыл бұрын
Animals at these kind of depths don't have flesh and bones like ours, and in fact lifeforms in the abyssal (3000m) and lower zones generally do not have skeletal structures at all, and instead have elongated bodies consisting of a kind of "jelly" flesh that gives them a low enough density to withstand high pressures. They also do not generally "move around like normal". Species in the lower depths prefer to wait for food that falls from the upper zones rather than hunt, in order to conserve energy due to the sparseness of food.

This story explains the millions of dollars and expertise that was put into the sub that James went down in compared to the $250,000 it cost for the one that is missing and runs with a PlayStation or Xbox controller. You’ve all seen the videos by now surely. James said he knew it could be a one way trip and there was no hope of rescue if he got stuck down there. So the thumbnail was correct as it explained why there’s no hope of rescue, because there’s no craft that can make the journey.

Cameron says so in this video. I'm not sure that's true as in "save someone in space, from space", though. There are no space vehicles that pack enough delta-v to be able to go rescue anything on another orbit then back to the station. Although it is possible, I suppose, to launch help from the ground - after all Sputniks rendez-vous with the ISS all the time then come back.

In regards to the missing submersible that obviously sparked this post, I would imagine the best way to get it to the surface would be the same way "the big piece" of Titanic's hull (it's literally called that) was lifted to the surface. It was hell to get up because of the immense weight of it but it was done. It was actually much larger when it was pulled up than it is now; They cut it down to make it easier to display at Titanic exhibits. I'm sure there's all kinds of unique ways to do this (recover the craft) that we can't even imagine but it'll still be a challenge nonetheless. It's somewhat unrealistic to think they'll be brought up alive but it's not completely unlikely -- yet. A power failure is one thing, but a catastrophic failure/implosion is obviously much worse and means this is already a recovery and not a rescue. I just can't get over how much of a joke the submersible was; The person controlling it literally uses what looks like a game controller and relies on short text messages from the surface to know where they're at/where they're going. If you read up on the craft, its capabilities and INcapabilities are rather shocking (and it was a huge gamble, only being designed to withstand pressure at 200 meters lower than the depth of the Titanic) so to think that this is what this tourist company would use to take tourists 2.5 miles below the ocean's surface is mind-boggling to say the least. Surprisingly, that billionaire on board was actually in far less danger when he went into space.
