My biggest pet peeves: when someone mentions they are an instructor withing the firts 5 seconds of meeting them. People that get bent out of shape for someone using their tank to try their reg caps. Guides that constantly ask how much gas I have.

I have been diving for 52 years. I signal gas the same way and in PSI. My BCD has 4 dump methods. Appreciate the simplification for those whose habits are confusing. Many dive masters, when I travel, have their own preferred methods. I wadopt their gas signals for ease of communication. Thanks for the videos.

Wearing dive computer on right arm vs left one of the best dive tips I've seen. I'm a new diver everyone including my instructor in Open Water and Advanced class wore dive computers on our left arms probably out of habit. I'm watching videos to continue learning how to become a better qualified diver. My perception of diving is most people are taught the basics. Its not until you get many dives under your belt do you find tips like this which can have a huge impact on safety and diving operations. I read the manual for the dive computer and the manufacture didn't recommend or state an arm to wear it on when diving. Keep them coming...!

One of the signaling air amount I learned diving is 5+5+5+5+5+3 for 2800 psi. Brother, I forgot how many times I already showed 5 after a couple of time. Ridiculous.

About blowing the valve Before attaching the Regulator.. I have experienced small bugs sitting in the small bore in the Tank valve, and even experienced a crushed bug in my first stage filter! So I always give a little blow with my valve, before attaching the first stage to the Tank valve, and I don’t give a shit if somebody finds that annoying! 🤔 I don’t like squashed Bugs or dirt, or water, or anything else in my first stage.. About drying the cap, I agree, just dry it with a towel, no need for blowing!

You're bang on! Having the computer on the right is painfully obvious, but you see sooo many divers having it on the left. It also never made sense to me having hand signals that require two hands, what are the certification agencies even doing??

Too many to count, but I'll give it a shot. Dragging octo's. (Overuse of) rattlers / tank bangers Shining a dive light in my face Touching the reef Kicking up silt Having new gear and not knowing how to use it Integrated octo inflators Touching/chasing wildlife Giving the thumbs up for OK Snobbism Overweighting divers Abandoning your dive buddy

People routing right hand side plumbed regulator via their left hand side. Big knives on the outside of the leg. Snorkel use with a long hose (because a snorkel is mandatory 🤦). Not having a notion of safe dive/gas planning. Kneeling.

What about lobster-claw gloves in cold water for signalling air pressure?

I learned the one handed bar count in my deep class. I'd like to use only that but what good is it if pretty much every other recreational diver is taught and used to the two handed version? 🤷‍♀️

This is where a pre-dive conversation comes in handy. Show them how you sign gas pressure and why and you will be shocked how many people will switch over.

@@pranadive sure, as a rather new diver I just don't feel it's my place to convert someone.

@@pranadive I like the one-handed version of signaling gas pressure. Having said that, I don't think I would suggest asking a new dive buddy (especially a relatively inexperienced one) to change their way of signaling gas pressure just before a dive. From a human factors perspective that seems likely to cause confusion and possible miscommunication in the event of an irregular or emergency operation.
@pranadive
@pranadive 11 ай бұрын
@@donc2721 I never suggested you have a new dive buddy switch switch over just before a dive. The conversation on how we signal has is a must prior to jumping in the water. Both divers can signal they way they always do but what you will find is that a diver not using one hand will begin to integrate that practice into their own skills over time.

If you hold your go pro with your right hand, you don’t want your computer on that hand! When I’m ascending I know the approximate depth I’m at and I’m not constantly holding my dump button, but that’s just me. If you are properly weighted you should not have to dump that much air anyway!
