Scuba Diving The World's First Floating Reef 🇦🇺
In this episode, Mark and Holly, head down to the Gold Coast with Gold Coast Dive Adventures to check out the World's first floating reef, Wonder Reef!
Wonder Reef is the world’s first buoyant reef just minutes from shore where nine underwater sculptures, towering almost 22 metres above the sea floor, move like giant kelp. Pause at different depths of this vertical drop dive to witness the ever-changing ecosystem, the deeper you dive.
Explore swim-throughs with Indian scad bait fish, giant gold-spotted rock cods, Queensland groupers, and sequined mulloway and admire the flourishing coral as it evolves over time. This underwater adventure awaits for all levels of divers in one of the most spectacular locations on earth.

It is an interesting idea. But the cost of it and the scale of it, compared to sinking a warship. I am unsure if many more will actually be made.

Those are some really cool structures. They look really hollow. Understanding Archimedes, how do the upper structures maintain their buoyancy? 🤔

Oh, after rewatching, I see the central core of the upper sections are not hollow. I saw Holly swimming through what must be a lower section and was like... hmmm🤔

Yeah the centre part is filled with air then have the wrap around after. The website about how they designed and built them is interesting - www.wonderreef.com.au/

Interesting concept - bit ugly in all truth (apart from the pretty fish) - and they don't really float per se - they are attached to the sea bed? It would be super cool if they were just buoyant at depth - and you never quite knew where they were! :)
