Scuba diving torches and dive lights are a key piece of scuba equipment that every diver should have. The deeper you dive, the darker it gets, as less of the sun’s natural light manages to break the surface. Eventually, you’ll get to a point where you are in complete darkness, unless you’ve got your trusty scuba diving torch with you that is!
In this video, Chris from ADRENO Scuba Diving covers scuba diving torches and recommends three popular types of torches available online, or at our Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Perth megastores.
Dive torches are also great for exploring caves and searching for sea life that may be hidden in little crevices. Dive lights also come in handy when you need to check your compass or another un-illuminated piece of important equipment. Scuba diving torches can also be used to communicate between buddies and get their attention while exploring the ocean’s depths.
Chris personally recommends the following three diving torches for scuba diving:
1. 450 Lumen Dive Torch: these types of torches aren't the brightest compared to others on the market and as a result are not ideal for night diving, but are great for many other types of diving including cray diving, and tropics diving.
2. 1200 Lumen Dive Torch: this style of scuba torch is basically when you require to start night diving. They do come in a range of varieties: one being a wide mode, another being narrow mode and also extra wide modes (commonly used as video lights). If you're wanting to do night diving, you'll ideally want a dive torch with a narrow mode so you can penetrate through dark and murky waters.
3. 3500 Lumen Video Light: this type of dive torch is the best of both worlds, as it has both a wide mode, and also a narrow mode. This results in a dive torch that is pretty much suitable for all uses.
Lastly for night diving, it's best to have a range of dive torches. These will include a primary dive torch, a backup torch and also a third light or glow stick to be used as a light behind your tank for people behind you to be able to notice you. It's important for safety measures to always have more than a single light while diving at night.
