Thank you Mike for this. Currently I lay my tanks down, but I want to stand them up. I have been searching for a better (= cheaper) setup than the commercial brackets. 1" PVC is certainly the way to go. You put a lot of thought into how to glue it up without getting some strange misshapen structure! I like having a removable rack. It seems to me the critical part is the connection to the boat. Tanks are heavy and there's quite a load in a seaway, so the rack has to be robust. My boat is only 20' and we use it in the Southern Ocean off Tasmania. Swells less than 2 meters (6') are rare. I like how you did this. My one suggestion is that, instead of bolt and nut, try using a lynch pin. They're even faster.

Great idea have adapted this for dive cylinders in the back of my SUV ! Also have the wing and regs attached so when I rock up on the dive site I’m practically good to go Thanks

Great idea and nice design. I will make a rack for my tanks but will use the grey conduit PVC. It wont get brittle from the effects of the sun like the white PVC does.

Nothing makes you feel like an adult faster than drilling a hole in your own boat.

Nice project. While you are not going to leave it in the boat all the time, PVC can become brittle from UV light. You may want to paint it to help it last longer.

Cool. I'm going to make one to mount to my toolbox in the back of my truck. Think I will add a piece of 3/8 rebar across the width for rigidly

Nifty little construction mate- but fuck, with our launches in South Africa that pvc will snap like a biscuit through the surf.

Have you tried to mount a BCD on the tank in the rack? Wondering if there is enough room. Nice video

Thanks for the video! I made one for myself except I used vacuum suction cups instead of drilling. Those stupid sea suckers are $75 a pop! So I grabbed ones used for mounting car racks for $22 each.

I'm not being a smart ass, but why didn't you just use 2x2 treated lumber (or even paint some untreated lumber), with coated deck screws and make the same frame with that material? That's my plan for this week. Your rack does look nice mounted in your boat.

I’m not a fan of wood in a boat unless it’s teak or Brazilian hard wood. But yeah 2x2’s would definitely work

DIY strikes again....Custom tank rack at a minimal of cost....If you have tank boots the system is probably less likely to slide
