If you wanted a glimpse into the future of dive computers, then here is a good place to start.
The Scubapro Galileo HUD is literally a stepping-stone into the future, and boy does that future look good!!
This is one of the greatest bits of scuba kit we've played with for some time, not to mention it's build quality, ease of use, hands-free operation, and just generally looking damn cool..!!

Thank you being that I'm a new diver. I'm looking for something that shows asent rate to make sure I don't mess up nobody seems to Ever seems to touch on that for us new divers. I'm glad you did thank you and that has made a big difference in my decision of what i'm going to pick for a dive computer.

Hi, great review on the Galileo. I'm interested to buy it, just wondering will it fit on to my ScubaPro solo mask ? Please answer. I'm planning to buy it on the month of July.

Love your reviews, always informative. Question I must have readers to see small letters at 3ft would this be an issue with the Hud? Is there a workaround?

Hmmmm - good question! Seeing as I’ve recently invested into the Garmin Descent Mk2i, I don’t think I’ll be stepping away from a wrist worn unit just yet. I went with the Mk2i purely because it’s a great dive computer, plus smart watch and can be used for a number of activities and exercise. I use it all day everyday so it was more than just a dive computer for me. I loved the HUD, and I see the future being a more integrated overlay within the screen itself - something along the lines of Matrix style thing... (if you get what I mean...?) If I wasn’t looking for a DC to be something I used everyday, then the HUD is definitely something I’d consider - especially as when I dive I generally have my DC strapped to my camera (before I had the Mk2i) Hope that helps? 👍🏻

The problem with a display integrated spread all over the mask’s glass, would face the problem that the background doesn't black out. It would make the HUD unreadable in bright conditions I guess. You would need Polaroid glasses, which darken automatically in bright surroundings,

Beautiful video again... ahem... Richard?.. (For some reason I thought your name was Mike).. Well, I used up the slot in my mask by getting myself a liquid image hydra camera-integrated mask so my hands will be free to use a wrist worn dive computer. The idea of having the dive computer up there kind of daunts me and I found the controls kind of ungainly, but maybe my opinion will change someday. Anyway. Always good to have some heads up about what's new. Keep them coming!

Yeah, I hear you - I had the same reservations, but actually, when you use this in the water the screen is very clear and doesn't get in the way of your view at all. Imagine it a bit like a rear view mirror in your car. You glance and see what you need to see without crashing. Similar to the HUD - you glance up and see everything really clearly. Haha - don't worry, a lot of people on KZbin have called me Mike... :)

Black Manta Photography still don’t like its controls though. You’d remember my opinions about accessibility from our earlier correspondence.

So you have to be wearing your mask to make pre dive adjustments ? Like adjusting you nitrox % ?
@BlackMantaPhotography
@BlackMantaPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Or hold the unit to your eye when it's not attached to the mask. I had hoped that you could set it up in the LogTRAK app, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

My dive buddy has one of these. He likes it but he’s annoyed by the fact that you have to re-pair with the transmitter on every dive. Every. Dive. As opposed to my EON Core that pairs automatically every time with its pod. He’s even had to read-pair when we take too long to get in the water. They really need to fix that

That's an interesting comment there Mike... I used this for over a week on this trip, and I had no issues with needing to reconnect every dive?! I know it's 18 months ago, but I'm sure I'd remember that??

I guess nerd 2 has a much better display. My only thought is what happens if your mask has a problem and you need to change mask. I've also thought that with the nerd as it sits on your regs, which is more likely to happen, mask or reg problem. Both are just too expensive at the moment, especially considering they will be improved on in the future.
@BlackMantaPhotography
@BlackMantaPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
100% agree. If your mask was knocked off, or if for any reason you lost the mask on the surface and it sank, you've then lost the DC. I tend to always dive with 2 DC's these days - having experienced one malfunction underwater before mid-dive, you can never be too careful.

I did consider the NERD 2, but for me that's more of a Teric being mounted on a reg or rebreather hose. I guess I meant more the technology involved in the Galileo, but completely get the validity of your point.
