Hey, i am truly loving this series. I have every intention of watching it to the end and printing my results. I have a question. I have not been able to properly alter a cylinder with the snake hook tool. I have been resorting to altering a sphere. I have tried remeshing the cylinder, using dyntopo, and a sundry of other methods but to no avail. How do you alter your cylinders with the snake hook tool?
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you're enjoying it 👍. Hmm that is a puzzler. What I would do is create the cylinder, use the voxel remesher then perhaps turn on the X symmetry and then use the snake hook. Because you have remeshed there should be plenty of geometry to drag the shape around. Make sure no other symmetry is turned on (z for example) as this could prevent using the snake hook properly. Let me know how you get on.

3:50 how exactly do you set up the mask and mesh filter like you have? I couldn't really figure it out so I tried to manually taper and it was uh....rough lol
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts Жыл бұрын
So this is control + shift + dragging a loop around part of the leg which does a lasso mask select. Then hit a to open the mask pie then hit smooth, if you hit smooth a few times you should get a similar result 🙂

Hey there are a few ways you can achieve decent hard surface results, I can recommend the hard surface video I have done which will give you a good overview of the methods I know of kzbin.info/www/bejne/moeqk5Kqe8por6M

Don't worry too much about the remesh sizes as in my experience you only need just enough for the detail you are going for. If you don't know already shift + r is a great shortcut for changing the size of the remesh and visualising how big it will be

Maybe a dumb question, but why not sculpt in T pose them pose with armatures?
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 3 жыл бұрын
No its a fair question, you could do it this way for sure. Main reason for me is I like to get the pose right first and having lots of separate objects improves the performance while sculpting in Blender
@mrfrupo
@mrfrupo 3 жыл бұрын
This is what I was trying in the past with blender and it is way harder imo. You have to mess with armatures and weight paint and blender slowing down to a crawl and then re-sculpting portions of the mesh afterwards anyways. I never even thought about posing first, I'm loving this tutorial.

I wanted to know how you were able to keep the face symmetrical when sculpting in that angle?
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 2 жыл бұрын
If you ensure to rotate in 'object mode' you will be able to enter that objects 'sculpt mode' and follow the axis of the object. Ensure the 'mesh symmetry' is turned on with the axis that you want at the top. Hope this helps let me know if not ^^.

Hi! i really like your videos so far but I've been having a problem with joining the model parts. When I highlight the body parts and join them all that happens is the body part moves in a random place and doesn't join
@MWSculpts

Great to hear. Ah yes sounds like you will need to unparent all the objects first before joining. This should solve it, let me know if still having troubles.

Hello, me again with another problem :) and requering potential assistance. At around 2:10, you're talking about the pivot point and that you set it to 'pivot to surface under cursor'. So I think I've found how to do that by going in the top left menu Sculpt > Set Pivot > Pivot to Surface under Cursor. I hope that, at least, this was the right thing to do. So my problem is that it doesn't seem to work proprely. I did the mak and all but when I try to rotate things around, the pivot point is set in the middle of the masked part. As a side note, I'm currently on Blender 2.93.1. If you could tell us wich version you used during this tutorial so we're sure to have all the same features. Thanks by advance.

Ok I think that the comment above is just me being stupid and not having understood how the thing work. I've figured out how it's working (I think). Sry for the bothering I though that the pivot point was supposed to change when you reverse the mask but it doesn't or something like that. Just forget it, I got it working
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 3 жыл бұрын
First off thanks for the question and dont hesitate to ask more, I tried to be as clear as poss with this series but of course missed out lots of details!! With set pivot under the cursor it is key to right click the menu item and give this a keyboard shortcut. Then when you hit the key it will set the pivot to right under where the cursor is placed. If you are masking then I would mask first then set the pivot. Sounds like you might be sorted anyway but just in case :).

Hello, I'm late to the party here. Just a quick question, how do you get into transform modes (i.e: sculpting, rotating, etc.) while in sculpting mode with a hotkey? I always have to scroll through the menu and its clunky for the workflow but I don't see any hotkeys listed anywhere for them in sculpt.
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 9 ай бұрын
Hey yeah shortcuts are great to keep the workflow smooth.. You could try holding ctrl+tab I think that is the modes pie menu. But also you can right click on most actions in the UI and assign a shortcut, including items in the mode drop-down

When you mirror the armour, how do you get it to then move the mirrored part to a new a-symmetrical location and keep mirroring the properties of changes made to the original part, if that makes sense?
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes this is by selecting the armour object then hitting alt+d, this creates a 'linked duplicate' which you can then move into position in the new location. I would recommend sculpting on the original object only as you will get strange results on the linked duplicate

@@MWSculpts Oh be careful I could chew your ear off with questions for help. I've just attempted to make my own base mesh from scratch. Not even bothered to parent and link items yet, just T-posing for now. I cannot get the anatomy right. Need to study more I guess or find reliable tutorials to follow along to. The breasts I make in blender look like bumpy squares, when I try to grab and pull them closer together, they don't seem to want to get close to meeting in the middle, same with the buttocks, they're just this awkward lumpy mess. I have a really hard time shaping out smooth curves, I often feel like my brushes go too deep or sharp, and the smooth tool just destroys any progress. Any advice on what to watch or how to progress this would be much appreciated

@@sariusmonk haha 😊. Well a great brush for bringing things together as you describe is inflate, try that in-between and it will bring them closer together. If you watch my monk adventurer sculpting video and skip to the arms / legs this might help you with the workflow. For anatomy study it's a tough one but loads of great content out there, Proko for one. I use Pinterest a lot, great place to find anatomy references, best of luck

Hi i have a question about when I try to apply the scale for my right hand and fingers I get a multi-user error what's another way to get around this?
@MWSculpts
@MWSculpts 2 жыл бұрын
So I try to scale everything within sculpt mode to avoid this. But in order to get around it you can select the object and hit F3 then search for 'make single user' this will make the object unique so you can then apply scale 🙌

Regarding the joining issue, take a look at the prepping a model for 3D print video kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqDXnnScjJZ8Y9U.
