Sculpting LOTR HOBBIT Door in Polymer CLAY

Creating a personalized Hobbit Hole - Christmas Style!
I spent 12 year in middle earth (aka New Zealand) where I was an artist for Weta Workshop (the physical effects company behind the Lord of The Rings and the Hobbit trilogies).
And today I'm especially missing my home away from home, so I'll be sculpting my own personal hobbit hole.
The sculpture was made from FIMO doll art (polymer clay). And for the armature I'm simply used cardboard and tinfoil.
The sculpture was baked for approx. 30 minutes at 110 degree Celsius, before being painted with acrylic paints.

This was awesome I have always wondered if it was possible to put art made of cardboard in the oven if had it covered in foil paper and polymer clay. Your videos show me that it actually does work

WOW I so loved this and loved the step by step process, The fairy lights was a special touch of Xmas, I can visualise this Hobbit door tucked into a nook of my garden. Great filming and commentary🎄🤶

What is that mixture you use to add a dark tone to the entire piece? Then dab it off with paper?

Hi Alexander. That is an alcohol based ink. I use Skin Illustrator, which is a sfx makeup product, but you can use any ink or an acrylic wash. I seal it with a clear finish prior to my washes so they dont interfear with the layers underneath.

I'm not familiar with the glue(?) you used to hold your pieces to the base, can you help me please? Gorgeous piece🌹

It's a type of contact adhesive :) a multi use glue (works on plastic, wood, fabric etc). You apply it to both surfaces and let it go tacky before pressing the 2 parts together. The brand I use is danish which is why it looks funny :) But here is a link to a similar product: amzn.to/3R65Tcn
