Part 3 is the final installment of the series on sculpting hands series. This time I show how to sculpt an open hand with individual fingers.

Awesome! They can be so tricky as there are many subtle shapes. It's also tricky since hands have bones with definite structures. Since we typically have to sculpt them entirely out of putty it's difficult to make them look right.

I sculpted a tank driver half for a scratch built grav tank model I am making. I used your armature method with 24 gauge brass wire and Aves Apoxie-Sculpt. After watching another of your videos I will use a file to rough up the wire like you did to make the putty stick better on the next figure.

+Aj been I do have a MUCH larger statue I've started and wanted to finish for years. If I have time to work on it I'll be sure to film some parts. You should be able to use these same principles shown in the video on a larger figure. Try using slightly thicker wire if you need more stability.

Tom! Do you have a tutorial on how to greenstuff or procreate a beer mug in a hand. I want to make a fat drunken half elf out of a khorne reaver but i have no idea to do details on a mug without denting it. Hope you had a video of something similar so i could learn.

I don’t have a tutorial of that but I have done a few of those sculpts. I would suggest sculpting the mug separately without the handle. Then pin the mug to the hand. After that sculpt on the handle.

I try to sculpt as much as possible from malleable greenstuff. The key to froth is to make lots of spheres that smoothly blend together.

+MAURQUILL DOMAIN I would definitely use greenstuff or procreate. Since the figures are plastic, you can't bake them without damaging the originals you are modifying. Also feel free to use superglue if you need to attach any other bits you are using to convert/modify the figures.

Probably, but this is how I do it haha. Actually there is one easier way. You can use picture hanger wire, or twist your own wire. Then untwist the end to make the 5 fingers.

Thanks for this. Very helpful. I found a similar way of doing this only it looks a lot more involved. Someone took 5 small gauge brass wire and twisted them like you showed for your armature video for the spine, only they did this for the arm, and then the 5 pieces of wire ended out as the thumb and fingers. +GamerZapocalypse that's a pretty good solution also, but is a different armature workflow than I normally use. I actually do something similar to this on larger scale figures though.

Another good one. I really need more practice on hands. I should just spend an evening doing hands alone on wire. I have never found a batch of green stuff that seemed any different than any other batch. I've heard there are bad batches of GS but in my experience it's all the same. I have only ever purchased one pack of Procreate but I find it's too hard. Even at 50/50 mix it's more like green stuff after 20 minutes. I really want to use it but it's just to tough to get good blends for me. Do you think I got a funky batch, or is procreate just harder, or am I just a pussy?

minitzonthesun it is a little firmer than greenstuff, but it might be a funky batch. Or maybe it's just old. I have found that whenever I get a new pack it seems to be softer. You could always try mixing in some greenstuff with the ProCreate. That will soften it up some but still retain many of the great properties of ProCreate.
