sculpture studies are so impressive. I love 2d drawing but the level of commitment for a 3d 'sketch' is insane! ten hours is a full painting for me at my current level. I always want to try my hand at sculpting when I watch you.
@SculptureGeek2 ай бұрын
Go for it! If you can draw, that skill translates pretty well to sculpting and vice versa. Also, that time is mostly because of filming etc... I could do it in way less if I didn't have to worry about capturing it the right way. Even still, 10 hours is nothing to me lol. The longest I've ever spent on a sculpt is 9 months without filming- heck, the project before this one, took me like 4 or 5 but again because of the filming and editing. Quick sketches are a good way to scratch the itch of something you want to sculpt tho. I'm still working on keeping my sketches faster and even more loose. I love when there's lots of rake marks and clay blobs but you can still tell what the subject is. I just don't want my audience to think I'm being lazy so I put in a little more. Anyway sorry for the wall of text, hit me up if you ever get into it and need some tips. It's so much fun :)

Thank you! Gotta get back to it! I know it can be tough to start back up. I usually set things up, wash my hands and just dig in. I find once I start a project, it gets easier to work on in sessions. Then the motivation starts to fall towards the end for various reasons. I’ve met a lot of people who have a hard time finishing sculpts. That’s when you just need to push through and figure out when to call it done.

Always excited to see your videos whenever you post them, and I'm glad you're having fun with it! Like another commenter said, I'll take less cinematics (although super cool) any day if it means you're not burning out and can create more without feeling the pressure of! I haven't thought much about trying to create sculptures with wet clay vs handbuilding with coils and stuff in my ceramic studio space but this video is giving me all sorts of ideas haha.
@SculptureGeek2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I super appreciate that. Also I’d love to see some work if you give it a try. Figurative work is a ton of fun- coincidentally, Ive always wanted to try throwing pottery too but never had a chance.
@thecreativehybrid2 ай бұрын
@@SculptureGeek Thanks, I'm focusing a bit more on my fibre sculptures at the moment but have ideas with wet clay, I just don't want to deal with hollowing the piece out if I plan to bisque fire it 😂. Oh I hope you do get the chance to try throwing on the wheel, it can be quite therapeutic. Alternatively if you wanted to build vessels/wares without a wheel, handbuilding via coil building or slabs works too!

This came out sick, my friend. Really well done! You can sculpt just about anything! I think you have a good balance in your content. It's quality over quantity, which is so much more effective.
