I once encountered scuzzlebutt while lost in the woods, he gave me a hand woven basket. It was really cool to see his patrick duffy leg as well.

I hear some Panopticon influence, don't I? Great shit, dude. Not a lot of bluegrass has that edgy tinge to it like this does, and it's a style I really like. That banjo sounds amazing.
@banjodruid9 ай бұрын
Love that you hear panopticon - I take that as a great compliment as I admire Austin greatly. An amazing guy. We both take strong inspiration from a love of nordic and american traditional music so that might be the culprit!

Dude this music just hits, i dont know if you will humor the idea. But you shoukd try useing a hurdy gurdy to complement your banjo, it will fill it out a bit more. But thats just my humble suggestion. Im glad i founf your music tho.

If you're trying to learn clawhammer, my biggest advice would be to spend as much time as you need making sure you get the downstroke right before even thinking about adding the thumb :) Also remember to grow out your finger nail. Makes a world of difference!

Awesome, didn't expect a banjo song have such traditional nordic sound! Which tuning do you use?
@banjodruid9 ай бұрын
Nice ear! It's double C, no capo. The minor modal mixture common in Scandinavian dance is one of my favorite aspects of the tradition.

@banjodruid9 ай бұрын
I’m sorry friend, I don’t really have the time or energy to write up a tab for this. Since banjo comes from a largely aural tradition, it would be good practice to try and learn by ear!
@haveapickle30759 ай бұрын
oh hey man i appreciate the response :) dont be sorry bout it, i totally understand. just a real pretty song ya got! i will be attempting to play it by ear, wish me luck!!

What tuning was the played in, it sounds so dark and spooky
@banjodruidАй бұрын
Double C tuning: gCGCD. The spook probably is from using harmonic minor in the B section, though, which uses a leading tone (D#) instead of the typical D natural in a C minor scale. Very common in Scandinavian traditional music
@Everett_OConnerАй бұрын
@ thanks for letting me know, I will check out the tuning and see what I can do

What kind of banjo is he playing. I have a cutaway Americana and it don't ring like this
@banjodruid9 ай бұрын
Goodtime Americana. The ring is from growing out your clawhammer nail. A lot of folks try doing clawhammer with short nails and that's where a lot of tone and technique issues come from. You can either grow out the nail like I do or you can grab a finger pick to get that strong resonant tone.
