Im so happy I found this video again. I remember watching this on my wii in 2009 as a kid and absolutely amazed that someone could build an airplane. Im now a commercial pilot.

All you guys saying homebuilt aircraft are death traps: they're not death traps if the builder knows what he's doing. In quite a few cases, homebuilt aircraft will perform just as well as, if not better than, production aircraft of the same class

For those in the USA, per FAR part 103, this is not a legal ultralight. Part 103 states it must not exceed 254 lbs. Every option listed on the website is over 254 lbs. Also, the max speed is too high. That being said, it would qualify as a light sport aircraft.

I built and flew a Mini-Max from 2003--2005. Lost it in a crash/fire caused by a garbage Hirth engine. I'm now grounded, because I can no longer afford to fly, and watching this thing just makes my heart ache... Enjoy, and be safe...

MOST of we, especially pilots, do like planes and flights and the sweet sound of proppelers and engines, BUT we HATE musics instead of their sounds! Who sees a video on airplanes and flights is lover of flights and airplanes, and possibly nothing to do with some idiot songs that have nothing to do with flights and planes! PLEEEEAASE! This is a wonderful little plane! If it were really an ultralight I would be flying it right now. I think it exceeds the 254 pound limit and carries more than 5 gallons of fuel. I read somewhere that it cruises about 98 mph? That’s a lot more than they allow for an ultralight. But wow! This thing is gorgeous. I have a perfect place to fly here, and that’s where I’d be most of my spare time!

That's called fly-by wire. They do it in modern military aircraft these days. The cock-pit controls are a bit like a radio control except its just wired instead instead of radio.

I have no clue, but I am guessing around 3-5grand if you do everything yourself and modify some stuff... Like using a kawasaki 450 engine from a kx450, that would run around 1-2 grand alone, but tons of power and torque... Ailerons, elevators, rudder, all mechanical linkage so about 200... all the metal another grand... Seat 200-500, and the frame and fiberglass I am guessing around 2,000.... It would be as good as you build it...

Oh! hell yeah use vaccume cleaner motors all the time for my airplane. Vaccume cleaners motors are the way to go. Cheap, powerful, create tremendos thrust,reliable, and take very little electricity and only 120 volts. Just make sure you launch off a cliff to gain airspeed in a dive and it will fly just fine.

Engines are beautiful, musical and heartwarming. Cut the socalled singing and vocals and lets just settle for the airplane. The music buffs can find another venue. The stuff that gets thrown in with these products of expertise and heavy committment simply takes away from the beauty of the craft itself and certainly from the video. Can it guys.....take your music elsewhere.

These homemade planes look like a lot of fun to fly but it also depends on who has the balls to take the risk. I see all kinds of extreme sports events that have just as much or more risk than these big boy toys. I would like to fly one of these any day of the week over other sports!!!

Actually it can come with one attached to the airframe from the factory. This way it not only saves you, but your aircraft too. If you google SD-1 Minisport and have a look at their website, you'll see what I mean.

Now I don't disagree the plane isn't decently tough but I would not trust a plane thats made out of wood and brackets haha its a beautiful plane and looks fun but also scary wood gets old flexes a lot and if you have an emergency landing and its rough it would be safer to have an aluminum fuselage

Conor Bryan Aluminum corrodes faster than wood rots. But all of that aside, they would have treated the wood to prevent that and you would need to do the same with aluminum. there are wood planes much older than aluminum ones that are still safe to fly. some are fast approaching 100 years.
