Launched last year, the Volvo XC40 is Fleet Car of the Year 2019. Readers of the prestigious company magazine Firmenwagen have decided to choose the first compact SUV of the Swedish premium manufacturer as the best fleet vehicle in the SUV and Van category. Its outstanding safety features, convincing connectivity and infotainment solutions as well as its attractive design have convinced the audience jury. In this category a total of 37 vehicles were available.
"I'm very proud that the youngest member of our SUV range has now also convinced the local audience after winning the Car of the Year award and winning this coveted trophy," says Volvo Car Austria Managing Director - Loic Claude - on the occasion Award ceremony on March 18, 2019 by Mrs. Mag. Karin Tober from the magazine company car.
In addition to the gratifying award for company car of the year, the Volvo XC40 more or less simultaneously won the Marcus Award for the best safety equipment in the category SUV and crossover launched by the ÖAMTC. These two important Austrian automobile awards round off the award winners (Car of the Year 2018 in Europe and Japan) for the premium SUV.
Within just a few months, the Volvo XC40 has become the most popular Volvo model in Austria, and its sales contributed significantly to the volume increase of 13.0 percent in the first two months of 2019 from Volvo Car Austria.
The five-star Volvo XC40 also scores points with its range of options: five different engine variants and four trim levels - Momentum, Momentum Pro, R-Design and Inscription - guarantee a vehicle that can be tailored to personal needs. The entry-level version already features LED headlights, a 12.3-inch high-resolution digital instrument display, leather steering wheel and shift lever, air conditioning, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors and the Sensus Connect infotainment system with Performance Sound audio system. The distinctive features include 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and the black grille in classic waterfall design with chrome trim.
As standard, assistance systems such as Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Road Edge Detection, Run-off Road Protection, Traffic Sign Recognition and Volvo City Safety provide reliable day and night detection of cars, cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians and wildlife, as well as self-emergency emergency braking initiates - even at intersections. Also standard on board is the emergency call system Volvo On Call, which offers a variety of useful online functions and information via the corresponding smartphone app.
The Volvo XC40 premium compact SUV has been declared a 'Game Changer' at the Autocar Awards 2018.
As Volvo's first ever compact SUV, the XC40 is a radical departure for the company. Not only does it take Volvo into a completely new market segment, it is also the first Volvo to be based on the company's all-new CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform.
Its striking looks also herald a new era of design confidence for Volvo, while its ingenious interior practicality, cutting-edge connectivity and autonomous drive technology set new standards for the class.

The XC40 is a car of firsts for Volvo. Its Harman Kardon sound system includes the world-first application of an air-ventilated sub-woofer mounted in the dashboard. This does away with the need for bulky bass speakers in the front doors, meaning the door pockets offer class-leading storage space. It is the first Volvo to be offered with wireless mobile phone charging, along with Cross Traffic Alert that automatically applies the brakes if you do not react to an object crossing the path of the car from behind. The XC40 is also the first car to be available via Volvo's innovative Care by Volvo subscription service.
Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, is inventing a new model of car access with the launch of the new Volvo XC40 and the new 'Care by Volvo' subscription service. This will make having a car as transparent, easy and hassle free as having a phone: a national, ready-negotiated monthly fee, combined with getting a new car every 24 months.
After ordering online, Care by Volvo customers will be able to drive away in a new Volvo without having to worry about the traditional extras such as deposits, insurances, taxes, service fees and geographical or customer age-related differences.
XC40 drivers will also be the first Volvo customers who can share their car with friends and family with a new digital key technology. This sharing feature comes as standard for Care by Volvo customers.*
