Back in the day late 70s early 80s when that was Navy access only my dad and I use to catch croakers there where you’re launching from. The lobster would come all the way in to right there under the Harbor drive bridge. I was an OB kid! Both my brother and sister graduated from Point Loma high. Still the best memories of my life!

@@SDFishandSips dude you're killin it out there!! So inspired watching your vids. Mike, I'm Nick, was curious to what VHF radio you're rockin out there, or one you could recommend when I'm out on my Zodiac here in Los Angels area.

@@Cowabunga808 I have a standard horizon handheld with GPS. The best thing you could do for your zodiac is get one with an antenna. Just hand held gets very limited range.

@@SDFishandSips awesome! I was looking at the Standard Horizon 890, any thoughts on that model? I'm not going to far out, just a few miles.

I have the HX890. It’s treated me well for a handheld and I know a couple of other kayaks guys that have one too.

That’s a nice peaceful area to put in at! I don’t think anyone knows about that little ramp back there!
@SDFishandSips4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I never really knew about that ramp until I started riding my bike in the area and exploring with my electric golf cart. The ramp is a little steep so now I have a better routine with taking the motor off to lighten the load up the ramp and save my back.

How were you catching the bait
@SDFishandSips4 жыл бұрын
I catch bait using a sabiki (I buy mine pre-tied from Squidco tackle shop) and I use a flat fall lure as the weight. If the bait is smaller I use smaller size sabiki hooks but I usually like big bait for big fish. I use my eyes to try and spot surface boils or birds diving to cast the sabiki into and the sonar on my fish finder to make bait balls to drop down in. When I drop down the sabiki I will usually jig it up and down. I also cut off 2 of the 5 sabiki hooks to avoid it getting tangled up when catching multiple pieces of bait.

Do you slow troll the HUB's?
@SDFishandSips4 жыл бұрын
I have not trolled the hook up baits but have drifted with a strong current. I usually cast and retrieve in the bays. The hook up baits get hit on the drop a lot and the cool baits and swim baits get hit on both the drop and retrieve.
