I was looking for something like this a few years ago for a field tool kit. I don't need it at the moment, but I sure do want it!!! Nice review.

I like the handheld format - less bench space and more portable - I have a Leister Hot-Jet S I bought maybe 35 years ago still working fine. Still made but insanely expensive - about 600 quid - hard to see how they sell any!

@@mikeselectricstuff 35 years is pretty impressive. The motor sounds pretty high quality from the video I saw a few years ago.

Looks like a great quality and compact tool. Just ordered one. Thx for the review. I was looking for an hot air station for some years but i do not have the space to store it in a box under my home office desk. Nor the pro need as it will be only for casual hobby use. Perfect !

I bought one and loved it. Unfortunately it melted itself. Opened it up and found that all the wires were stranded steel instead of stranded copper which means the wires could’ve been a gauge or two thinner. The self tapping screws wore out very quickly too and air began to leak out the sides of the hand piece. Now I gotta print out a new plastic housing and replace the wires to get this thing working again

Any luck trying to get warranty for it? What temperature and air flow were you using?

This is perfect for field work. Wouldn't want it taking my ears off in the lab, but for the field? It's just perfect.

Air temperature and air speed control at low speeds are critical, and I can't really see the design point of this other than building another product down to price. There are a lot of good reasons that larger desktop hot air stations are designed the way they are.

A lot of good reasons? no not really, just a bit of weight and length savings.

technology is evolving. but i think it's still not there to replace the desktop stations yet. but it will not take long.

Any chance you could measure the air speed and dB at the different fan settings?

I saw the thumbnail and thought meh, but this is actually a nice little unit! Pretty cool that the unit goes dormant in that little stand just like the 861dw, same nozzles too. Very cool. I've never seen that little suction tool for removing the ICs, have you done videos on any of these devices? (FYI, your link for "Eakins Camera Microscope" and "Daniu Tip Cleaner" are broken)

I think that that's because they are made by JBC, and he has been lately "praising" Metcal and "discrediting" JBC.

From the thumbnail I thought it was battery powered which would be the most portable! haha

Vibrations? Is nozzle earthed? Is plastic handle dissipative?

try to put the handle into ur 861 cradle , does the sleep function gonna work?
@Ismsanmar
@Ismsanmar Ай бұрын
Of course is gonna work. The sleep function is triggered by a magnet on the base, actuating the reed relay inside the handle.

I have a similar hair dryer des 560c hot air gun, but it has a power of 560 watts, 1000 is still better. I wonder what kind of heater it has.

Its just a normal coiled nichrome heater, found in any hot air handpiece.

@@Ismsanmar but the handle lays on the side on this stand and on the quick it sits on the top, so the magnets might not be in the right location to activate sleep function.

@@SURGE101Check those heavy stands again. The part where the magnets resides protrudes just the necessary length just to be positioned on the same position than on this one. Remember, both are Quick...

@@Ismsanmar thanks that info good to know. to be honest I wasn’t sure that’s why I asked the question because I thought maybe the magnets may be in different locations on the handles considering they sit differently when put into the stands. Thanks for the help.

This is a great idea. Unlike the Chinese soldering iron stations, this is way better than anything you could make yourself, I think. Apart from OLED lifespan - I’d prefer a LED or LCD display. Second, lower airflow such as a 2-20L/min range, quieter & more controllable would be better? And I agree about the PVC cable.

What an abnormal high price for this - obviously they are seeking for lochs (simpletons) - You can buy normal enough Hot Air station if You pay a little more or also normal similar hot air gun for less price. The reviewer earns alms, so there is no expectation of objectivity. Sure, this hot air gun works, but it's not worth the money
