Zetterlund is good 200ft player covers a lot of space on the ice, has a decent shot, Sharks could develop or flip him couple years later for another 1st round pick. Shakir played 67 out of 68 games for his KHL team, scored 25 points (1st among D), his average TOI is about 17 minutes per game, and he is ready to grind his NHL spot through the minors.

I'll love it even more if Tom Fitzgerald is able to get Timo's signature on an extension and if we're able to keep Jesper Bratt long-term as well.

@drew10981 Жыл бұрын
Sharks fan since their just before their first ever playoff appearance here. I'm pretty underwhelmed with the return package for Meier. I don't like seeing such a high value guy get moved, but a tear down is needed to get this organization where it needs to be with whatever re-blank adjective you choose to use here. Meier is the guy you move to get an A+ level prospect back. You get a piece back that can change the organization going forward. Instead we got magic beans, conditional magic beans, a project with some decent upside (but is still a project), a guy who might be playable at the NHL level, and a cap guy. I get the desire to try and move out some guys that don't have a future with the organization and bring in some guys that probably do, but I don't feel this was anything close to a great trade for Grier. It seemed from his comments last night that there was no appetite to actually sign Meier after this season and so his comments a month or two ago about extending Meier was a bluff, and he got called on it. Then got out played by a more experienced GM with the game of chicken in demanding better value coming to San Jose. But best case scenario is it gets close to even in 4-6 years down the road. Today though, absolute landslide by Jersey. The franchise with one of the best prospect pools in the league got away with trading magic beans and their 5th best prospect for the HIGHEST IN DEMAND guy at the deadline.

The Devils did give up a roster player, and two players who have seen NHL time on ice this season, but nobody who played in Saturday night's 7-0 win against Philadelphia got traded. I agree with the assertion that it's a lot - and Harrington's already gone to Anaheim on waivers - but it's not the Big Stuff. Muk was at best the Devils' #3 D prospect (and was the third first-round pick the Devils made in that draft), and he could hit it big with the Sharks (and I hope he does), but he was a player New Jersey could afford to give up in this deal. I hope all four players that San Jose got do fabulously there, but they were still all pieces New Jersey could afford without the cupboard being anything close to bare.

To play devils advocate as a sharks fan. It's in the Sharks interest to have not gotten Mercer in this trade. If they are going to do even a partial rebuild, NJ keeping mercer and anyone else people thought they would have to trade, gives a higher probability of that conditional draft pick to be a first. So although it's not as flashy up front, if they can draft well ((yes I know magic beans)), this is one of those trades that no one will really know if it was s fleecing or not for several more years.
@aidandunne5978 Жыл бұрын
If I was a sharks fan, I'd be alright with the return. No high end talent, yes, but a ton of roster filling. Zetterlund is a bottom 6 spark plug of an energy guy who will give you an identical performance at 10 min a night as he will at 20, he seems to never get gassed. Okhotyuk is currently a tweener, but projects as a reasonable 3rd pair, hard hitting, defensive defensemen. And Mukhamadulin is probably going to land as a top 4 defensemen, with a slight chance at being a top 2. So all in all, no big pieces, sure, but filling out the roster with young talent. You need trades like this that put flesh on the bones of a team just like you need the big pieces.

The Tanner Jeannot trade hasn’t worked out at ALL for Tampa. Jeannot only has three assists in sixteen games for Tampa, zero goals. And they gave up FIVE DRAFT PICKS. The Islanders gave up a 2024 third round pick to get Pierre Engvall from Toronto and Engvall has been lighting it up for the Islanders. He has five goals and seven points in twelve games for the Islanders. He’s been providing some much needed offense to a team that has struggled to score this year. Edit: And now the Lightning were a first round exit. They have zero draft picks for the first FIVE ROUNDS in 2023 without winning a playoff series. Another edit: Steve kind of jinxed Andrei Vasilevskiy. He just had back surgery and will miss the first two months of the season. That could be a DEVASTATING injury for the Lightning. We all know how important he is to that team. 60 game goalie year after year. Vezina Trophy winner in 2019 and 2021 Conn Smythe Trophy winner.

Meier was a top 10 pick that is already a proven premium player. Trading away a still unproven Holtz and a 2023 1st is a good starting point. Especially when both assets coming back are unproven. NJD can and will resign Meier will be resigned. Tatar, Haula, Severson and Blackwood will have to go, but they've got the prospects to make it up, and they keep they're core. They'll be able resign Bratt and Meier. The future is bright for the Devils

Hatakka has been injured for most of this season but could be a strong addition for the Devils when he's healthy.
