Monty is better than you think. Yes, he's played nearly 200 games and doesn't have good stats. But that's likely to be the case when playing 150 of those games for a bad team. Monty will likely do as good a job as anyone else for team Canada.

Logan Thompson is having a good year. Another goalie that has had a way better year than any of the guys on the Canadian roster is Blackwood. In my opinion Suzuki deserves the nod to be on the roster more than Tavares and a couple guys on the roster.

Regardless of who you think should or shouldn't be goalie for Canada, it's a bit ridiculous to only look at sv%. Yep good team in front of a goalie help the goalie. Thompson and Hill definitively play behind a much better defensive team. Right now Montembault have a 0.148 goals saved above expected per 60 which is right between Vasilevskiy and Saros, and much better than the 0.083 of Binnington. That said, I do believe that Thompson is the best Canadien goalie currently and should have been part of Canada. Personally, I think it should have been Thompson, Blackwood and Hill. Blackwood is not far behind Thompson is both GSAE per 60 and Sv%. And if you want more veteran, you can you with Talbot instead of Blackwood since he have a better GASE per 60 and Sv% than Binnington.

The Goalie decision for team Canada is debatable but its clear they didn't take the 3 best Canadian goalies this season. Thompson, Blackwood and I would argue Talbot should've been at least discussed. Fair enough. But these roster decisions had to be locked by like the 3rd of December. They didn't have the information you have now, they had to base it on peoples start to season and their prior body of work. Has it aged excellently? maybe not but it is what it is. I still think that the roster is good enough to win the whole tournament without a doubt. Also on Montembeault, he had some games where he got blown up because the Habs SUCKED for like 20 games, but in wins, Montembeault's save percentage is SILLY at a .949%!!!! and he's tied in 3rd in the NHL with 3 shutouts!! If I had to guess, they took Montembeault because when he's on, he is ON. His sv% in wins is .27 higher than Thompson's for example. It's a little weird, but I can see the logic too. They may have assumed that with a competent team in front of him, his number would look much better. Thompson should absolutely be on this team, I would argue Blackwood and Kuemper or even the flower just for the culture should have been the picks, but I can kinda get the Montembeault pick

Team Canada had to choose one of Adin Hill or Logan Thompson for the team, it is well known they did not get along well in Vegas which is why they aren't on the same team anymore. Canada was obligated to pick one of the two, and they went with Hill. They did not want both, to avoid any potential drama. Any kind of digging into the situation would have made Adam's rant about the 4 Nations unnecessary, if only he looked into it.

The problem is the toxic political bullshit at Hockey Canada that keeps fuckin up the process. Leaving some of the best players home to satisfy the feelings of the people building the team is what caused us to lose the dubs, and would very well see us lose this showcase event. Whenever we just pick the best possible 14 forwards, best 9 dmen and 3 best goalies, we dominate and take gold. Whenever they try to get cute with how they pick the team and overthink the process instead of doing the obvious, we lose out completely. They need to fix that before anything else. Then they need to put a lot more focus on goalie development.
