This is honestly the perfect age groupings, anyone aged 11 and under is a young child. 12 - 14 is early adolescence, 15 - 17 is middle adolescence, 18 - 20 is late adolescence and 21 - 24 is young adulthood. This definition of adolescent development is by far the most accurate one, because kids usually enter 7th grade as still being 12 year olds and the highest age of majority is 21, there's still a lot of things kids aged 18 - 20 couldn't do still. But, the reason why 21 - 24 is YOUNG adulthood, instead of FULLY GROWN adulthood is because the brain and body isn't fully developed until one is at least 25. And I do realize that the general public would think that 25 is just too late to make adulthood official and 18 is just too early. With these age groupings, I think it's the most definitive answer of adolescence, because while 12 isn't a teenager, they're already in 7th grade and while 20 isn't a teenager as well, they're still too young to engage in certain adult activities still, and while 21 to 24 aren't teenagers as well, they still do have the brain and body of teenagers and they won't be fully developed until they're 25. So, with every factor taken into consideration and what the general public might consider or live by, this is the CORRECT definition of adolescence

Well late adolescence is until 22. However, many scientists agree that adolescence lasts until 25.

The brain develops throughout your life and your skeletal/muscle system develops into your early thirties. Stop consuming popsci articles.

@@ongjoon9173 18, even 16 year olds can do most of those young adult things in most countries. America's just ass backwards with its laws. A 20 year old is absolutely a young adult. This is as arbitrary as it gets.

@@grimgravy670918-20 at least is usually considered late adolescence. I think having a young adult distinction is good but it should be clear they aren’t fully grown adults. Basically, young adult should be a bridge between adolescence and adulthood

If I could go back to any age group again it would be age 2-10 childhood, I would not want to be adolescent again, 11-15 was the worst 16-19 was okay I'm 23 and last 2 to 3 first years of early adulthood have been tough childhood was the golden years
