Seán Buí Jig : Uilleann Pipes, Bodhrán, Guitar

My first video with the last instrument I started to learn : the Uilleann Pipes. I began to play three months ago, I'm starting to enjoy it but I still have so much to learn !

Merci ! Après j’avoue que cette vidéo a deux ans, et que j’ai progressé bien plus dans les 3 premiers mois que dans les 21 qui ont suivi… et oui je suis très content de cette cornemuse, même si je pense qu’il y aurait intérêt à faire changer m’anche du régulateur qui joue très facilement faux. Hormis ça elle est parfaite. Par contre Jean-Yves a pris sa retraite, cette cornemuse était sa dernière…

Wow man this is just great! I'm jealous - I put so much practice into the pipes but never got a good working set. I ended up doing flute instead, which turned out to be a great thing. But I never stopped loving the sound of the pipes, I still use the piping techniques even on the Chinese flute. You play really well and do the instrument justice. Can't wait to hear more. Nice work man!

Thank you Chris ! I'm sorry to hear that you struggled so much with pipes. Which kind of set did you have ? I'm lucky because I found a maker in France who could make me a very good set for a price that I could afford, and it was very well tuned right "out the box". But I know that the smallest problem on the instrument, between the reeds and all kind of leaks which can occur everywhere, can make the learning painful if not impossible... Anyway, that is indeed not a bad thing if you have chosen the Xiao instead, because you play it so well !

@@narnodel2 thanks for your kind words. I had Just a starter set without drones from pipeworks of Boston. Not sure if they're still open. It was a nice instrument, but the weather here in Colorado wreaked havoc on the reed, and I could never get it to work. I tinkered with it till it broke, then had to wait months for another one in the mail. So that kind of killed it all! When I write some suitable music for pipes perhaps I'll hit you up we could collaborate.

@@TalesoftheBoatman The reed ! Always the reed ! I have some eastern oboes, I think I spend more time trying to make the reeds work than play the instrument itself. Choosing the flute is the best solution to that ! Yes I have been told that the uilleann pipes reeds like humidity, Ireland weather is the best for that (and I have the luck to live in a old stone-made house in the forest, my reed likes it too), but I'm not surprised that living Colorado was a problem for that. Maybe with a humidifier in the box... At the end, that is a good thing that you quit the pipes because I would be happy to record your compositions with mine !

Yes I played my first notes in July. I don't know if I'm gifted, I have just learned dozens of instruments before this one, and that helps. I learned without a professor but I have bought 4 very good DVDs from Na Piobairi Uilleann : "The Art of Uilleann Piping", which were very helpful.
