My wife and I are big fans of assassins creed and we love the shanties you did for the game. The versions on your channel sound way better than what was in the game. I wonder why they had a different tone. But really enjoy your videos

In the game, we weren't trying to make them sound good. In fact, we were discouraged from singing nicely or adding harmonies. That's partly why I started this series: I wanted to exploit the potential of these songs to be beautiful. The AC versions were super fun to listen record and I like listening to them still, but here I'm allowed to make them as nice as or as not nice as I want.

Love your vids, story or just the shanty! How nice to hear the words clearly(and your harmonies!) Question: A song I heard from a folk record my mom had-when I was little ; it was like a sing song tale - I can't remember its title! lyrics I recall .. "when I was a lad in a whalin' town .. an old man said to me, you can spend your life, yer jolly life just a'sailin on the sea - search this world for pretty girls till yer eyes are weak & dim. But don't DON'T go swimmin with a mermaid son, if ya don't know how to swim! So I signed on to a whalin' ship, & my very first day at sea ....." Is that an actual shanty? Its a long song-but I loved it! : )

@@SeanDagher Perhaps its not a shanty- but since we had no tv, I listened to records alot when I was little (Jean Ritchie is a super great folk artist too-dulcimer ... she has passed now though,'none but one' starts her& dulcimer; & builds with her sons own instruments), but mystery mermaid song ... some lyrics I reach in my mind to remember - ' ... I seen a mermaid just-ah reachin out to me, ' live with me in the sea said she, and down on the ocean floor- I'll show you a million wonderous things, ya never seen before' ... 'her hair green as seaweed, skin blue and pale .. her head to her waist was just my taste, but I didn't much like her tail ... '
