Is is not the well known song we associate with The Spailpín Fánach but it a song also titled An Spailpín Fánach as is introduced by the uileann piper, Ronan Browne who was Man of the House for this particular Geantraí programme. ! If anyone has any more info on this particular song we'd love to hear from you.

@@TradTG4 John agus Trad TG4,This appears to be a Galway City (and environs) song, with numerous themes some like the Raggle Taggle Gypsy and then disparaging references to the (Galway City)Tribal landlords like Blakes, Bodkins, etc. Rónan Browne, (or the singer here Seán Tyrrell), may well have sourced this version from his (Rónan’s) in laws in Conamara. One part of one verse here does correspond to the normal Conamara version, as sung by Meaití Joe Shéamuis, Stiofán Ó Cualáin, Síle Denvir (Liadáin), Treasa Ní Mhiollain, etc, etc. There is also a version from Achill which has another verse about a tailor measuring a dress for a woman that he is (secretly) in love with. Interestingly, I just heard a lovely version, very recently on R na G by Gráinne Ní Fhatharta which also has the last verse about the tailor as in the Achill version. You may note that I have not commented on the Munster version which was put on the Irish Leaving Cert Curriculum. I did not refer to it, mainly because (like “an Chaighdeán” and everything else from Munster Irish), it has been forced on all of us, including from teachers with substandard “book Irish” forcing their version of substandard Munster book Irish” on children in Gaeltacht schools in Connacht and Ulster. Rant over, but it is a song and tune that I love. Dála an scéil, níl aon rud mí cheart le Gaelainn (álainn na Mumhain), nuair a bhíonns duine le Gaelainn nádúrtha (ón gcliabhain) i gceist.
