sE V7X & V7 Swapping Grilles & Foaming

It's actually good for voiceover, Deep Rich sound Needs a pop filter though

I think the reason the V7 top works better on the V7X is not only due to the thickness of the foam inserts but also due to its size, meaning that there is a bit more space between the top of the mic/foam and the capsule inside. I thought this might be why it seems to work better for reducing plosives because when recording with pencil mics with wind shields on them the common tip people give is to not have it on fully, it might be that the slightly longer distance between the foam and the mic capsule to more reduction you get in wind noise, it's just an assumption but I reckon that's what's going on when you switch different tops around.

this is an awesome tip. i am replacing th beta 58s in my mic kit at the moment for V7's and this convinced me to also get a V7x for snare to replace the 57 giving me the option to do a grill swap for singers when i want a little more extension. thanks for your work its really helpful for a working live band mixer. cheers

I was a little confused when I revisited this video because I thought the obvious swap was omitted which was to simply put that v7 grill on the v7 x mic. But then I realized that at the time of this recording, a separate purchase of the v7 grill was not possible. As someone pointed out approx 13 days ago, it is now for sale for $20.00. I'm thinking it will reduce the plosives affectively due to the size on the v7 grill and added foam thickness but because the frequency response of the v7 x is lower, the handling noise may still be an issue. Not a big deal to me though. I may but a v7 grill.

i do singing and a voice over and a lil bit of podcasting... which one can you refer for me? (not that deep male vocals but i can do a little hight pitch when singing)... here in phiippines they don't sell it seperately i mean for example i'll buy the v7x then swap the grille into v7 they don't allow it here.. pls reply :( thanks

The sE V7 MK, is a version of the V7X with a V7 grille... job done!

Did you try taking it out completley and then sticking a Sure58 windscreen over the top?

I can't decide between akg d5, senn 835/845, se v7/7x, and lately I came across Superlux tm58 and even 258 and lastly Samson q2u which is also USB/xlr combo for possibility to even plug it to the laptop/phone on the go...

'SE V7 MK Miles Kennedy Signature Edition' is probably the answer. It's probably a product that uses v7x body, v7grille.(Check out the frequency graph) I think the rough color of the product is going to be divided likes and dislikes. And the additional charges.

@@AntonBrowne yes The product definitely struck a deep sweet sound. Not with a nasal, but with a moderate presence. By the way, I would like to recommend a product that you like. 'oktava mk220' old school but special glossy noble Dark-sounding microphone? No, a microphone with details.

You are correct The V7MK comes equipped with the DMC7 X dynamic capsule as does the V7 x but with a black V7 grill and red wind filter. The V7 has the DMC7 dynamic capsule. Good eye on the frequency charts. I was waiting for SE to respond if I could buy the V7x with the V7 grill but never heard from them so I just got the V7MK after reading your comment. Thanks. And Thank you Anton for your great reviews. The M88 has worked for years as a live vocal mic and was looking for something in that ballpark. Glad to find one well under $200.00

@@DavidKarns Thanks for your report on the Myles Kennedy version. So this MK version is another way to get to the same results as the V7X with the V7 Grill? - ie- V7X response minus handling and plosives (I can hear Anton vamping that phrase....haha)

@@WalterDavidRiffmon It sure seems so. It seems to be more expensive, just a bit, but if you like the sound, its still on the affordable side, and sm58 isn't gonna give you that.
