33:35 "Ernest Hemingway once wrote: 'The world is a fine place and worth fighting for.' I agree with the second part." A fitting line to end this film with.

I mentioned this in your Full Metal Jacket video but R. Lee Ermey was a Marine, but he was also a cop in Detroit. That's why he got his role in this film. Also, Brad Pitt actually broke his arm during the filming of this. Fincher re-wrote the script to include it.

I could be wrong, but I was thinking somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, probably Seattle as it's the biggest city in that region. It rains constantly and produces an abnormally high number of serial killers, on which Somerset seems to be an expert.

"What's in the box?" Fun Fact: When filming the "sloth" victim scene, the SWAT officers were NOT told that the victim was still alive. When the victim coughs and scares the SWAT officers, that reaction is real. Location Location Fact: The diner that Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow) meet at is the same diner that Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke meet at in Training Day (2001). In fact, they meet in the same booth. It's the Quality Coffee Shop in downtown LA. Standing Together Fact: The ending in the movie is the ending in the original draft of the screenplay that the actors and director had signed on to. Producer Arnold Kopelson had it re-written, and the ending was changed to John Doe (Kevin Spacey) kidnapping Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow), with Mills and Somerset racing to save her life. When David Fincher, Brad Pitt, and Morgan Freeman read the new ending, they all demanded that the original ending be put back in or they wouldn't do the movie. Art Over Ego Fact: The producers intended that Kevin Spacey should receive top billing at the start of the movie, but he insisted that his name not appear in the opening credits, so as to surprise the audience with the identity of the killer. To compensate, he is listed twice in the closing credits, once before the credits start rolling and once in the rolling credits in order of appearance. Another advantage from Spacey's point of view, as he saw it, was that he was excluded from the film's marketing during its release, meaning he didn't have to make any public appearances or do any interviews.

Brad and Gwyneth were dating at this time. The director didn’t tell the cop that stood over the sloth victim that he was still going to be alive so when he gasped that was the actors genuine reaction . The fingerprint tech is Morgan’s son.

As an American I want to clear up the notion that Americans like to leave our trash out. No more so than other countries. Don’t let Hollywood and New York give you that impression.
@FLQueerLiberal1982

Sadly, that's debatable. I'd say a lot more countries considered Western Society are better than America in general. Particularly Western, Central, and Northern Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It's not California and New York leaving trash out, it's some of large - typically industrial, but not necessarily - American cities. And it's not just left, it's left until pick up. Sadly, in places like NYC or Detroit, it is an eyesore. But also, this is also common even in some of those generally less trashy countries, depending on where in those countries. You also have to remember, this was the early '90s - before we were a self-conscious nation, and even before it was popular to be worried about what damage our disposal waste might have on the environment.

I'm not sure that it is meant to be New York. Has Fincher or anyone connected to the film made that comment? Where Doe takes them at the end sure doesn't look like the outskirts of New York. Perhaps the city is just meant to be a composite of all modern big cities.

I guess you could say the killer thinks outside the box. 😎🎤. But yeah, New York + Los Angeles dominate the American film landscape because of their size and the fact there are film studios in both locales (that is changing, however). It would be an interesting watch along for you to see 'The Walking Dead' series (at least the first season) which was shot exclusively in the state of Georgia.

The scene where they bribed a junkie to authorize illegal search and seizure of a private residence was vile. In the case of the movie, I admit, I was propagandized at first, too. But, for non-serial killer citizens (which is 99.99% repeating of us), what they did was hideous.

You don't have to struggle with pride. It IS a sin. A cardinal one. There's no ambiguity with that fact. I was struggling with this idea not all that long ago, too. I think where a lot of people get confused is when they trade the word "grateful" for the word "pride." It's so haphazard that people now celebrate a month of actual pride. Instead of being grateful for even a single day of freedom.
@kellifranklin4432
@kellifranklin4432 7 ай бұрын
With respect, people that are celebrating pride month also do not take their hard fought freedoms for granted. Especially in the climate in our country right now when so many people are desperate to take their newly hard fought freedoms away again.
@madeincda
@madeincda 7 ай бұрын
@@kellifranklin4432 Hard fought doesn't necessitate positive outcomes. It's celebrating sin. People have had their freedom in the West for a LONG time already. Generations, even. Let's not delude the bigger picture here. You know, black people get an entire month, too.Although, somehow, I think they actually deserve it. If you want to talk about fighting for freedom. And guess what? They don't throw sin in everyone's faces for a month whilst banning select groups of people from their "celebrations" for disagreeing with them. Not that the LGBT "community" is limited to only a month anymore. And do you know what happens when you decide not to follow their lead? Their toxic community shuns anyone who disagrees with their fantasies. But, entitled people are entitled to their entitled beliefs, especially in Canada. Which now has disgraced names, education, and children. If you don't see the connection there, I feel sorry for you, friend. With respect, of course.
@FLQueerLiberal1982
@FLQueerLiberal1982 7 ай бұрын
There are several definitions to "pride", which is common amongst many different words. As a historically marginalized group, people can be proud of who they are, even in the face of hatred and threats of death. Or someone can be proud of a job well done. Even still, people can be too proud to ask for help. The sin of "pride" from the Bible is the one that is synonymous with "hubris". Pride - the quality of having an excessively high opinion of oneself or one's importance.

@@FLQueerLiberal1982 Language is quite clear at this point, and not everything has to be fluid. You're not facing anything right now. You have technology right in front of you, and you're using it freely to express yourself. Good for you and everyone else. I'm grateful for that. Nothing more needs to be celebrated. Unless you're prideful and want to show off. That's your prerogative. I choose to be grateful. I don't need pride for that.
