My generation tended to not like Brad Pitt when this movie came out. All of our girlfriends had a huge crush on him and we were all young and insecure. Haha. As an adult, his acting in that final scene is absolutely incredible. The range of conflicting emotions he plays in just a few seconds is amazing.

Just commented same! Pitt for this & excellent "12 Monkeys" was still a one-trick pony here! May have actually learned to act like Depp did, but here the equivalent of Pamela Anderson on Baywatch for dudes: air-headed eye-candy making bank! Talent need not apply!😅

I definitely had a love hate relationship with Brad Pitt when I was younger. I was not a good looking dude and very insecure about that, so Brad Pitt definitely made me inanely envious and self conscience. but then on the other side, I absolutely loved him in this and then Fight Club, so I also had a lot of respect for his skill. Very confusing time, likely due to the raging hormones. Glad I'm more self assured and can just enjoy his work instead of getting all frazzled.

I think Somerset's advice to Tracy is this (in not quite as eloquent language as his): you have two choices tracy. You can have this child and raise him in this horrible area/city, or you can abort the child. If you have the child, spoil the hell out of it not just with gifts, but with love. If you decide not to have the baby, then never tell your husband you were even pregnant. Not saying I agree with this advice, but it seems to fit his character and his experiences.

I believe they are in Chicago- they have elevated trains rather than subways, so the trains that run even with apartment ( & other) buildings all day & all night & they definitely shake the place.

I'm not typically big on directors, I mostly just like what I like. But Fincher is one of the few I turn out for; both "Fight Club" and "Se7en" are incredible, iconic movies, and although I'll probably never watch it again, "The Social Network" is fantastic as well. And it's a shame he never got to finish The Millennium trilogy; the turn at the end of the trial in "The Girl Who Played With Fire" is among the best I've ever read and I'd've loved to have seen what Fincher did with it. (Edgar Wright is maybe the other standout director, with "Hot Fuzz" and "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" among my favorite comedies of all-time." His movies aren't just funny, they're directed with a sense of fun and style that sets them apart.)

ALSO... you say the movie is gross, but like... I love how it's really unsettling at times (the "sloth" victim still being alive is quite the jump-scare, and the "lust" killing is creepy af) but it's not remotely graphic. Really impressive, to walk that line.

Although they never mentioned it in the movie I think it's a safe bet to assume that the city setting was Seattle Washington. Seattle is known for it's copious amount of rainfall. Although the city doesn't rank within the top 30 of the US's wettest cities, a lot that are ranked higher are aided in totals by the Hurricane season. The west coast rarely deals with Hurricanes....

I think most people were more positive when they were younger. Thought people were generally good. The world was generally a good place. But life has a way of wearing you down. Those views inevitably become more and more jaded. Cynical. It becomes harder to see the good.
@unclebounce1495
@unclebounce1495 11 ай бұрын
Life is generally good. Becoming cynical isn't becoming more rational, it's becoming scarred and more irrational. 99 times out of 100, a stranger will help you if you're in peril and not be a bestial predator. but that 1, to the irrational anti-humanist, stands out more than the 99 people doing good and helping others on a routine basis. then they focus on the bad and the drink the media kool aid by watching the news. confirmation bias and irrational skepticism.

Kevin Spacey's misgivings aside, he done this role proper. EDIT: P.S. Amazon didn't exist in the 90s! It barely existed in the mid-2000s, it was basically just an online bookstore. I bought a bunch of college books about brains and AI back then, in 2004/2005, spending half my paychecks on brain/AI books from Amazon just to learn on my own what the cutting edge was. Anyway, rant over :]

Amazon launched before this movie came out. You are right they only sold books at the time. I worked on a leading big box book retailer website in 97 and we studied Amazon very deeply as even by then they felt Amazon was their main competition. Bezos even then said the company was not about selling books, so he already was visioning Amazon as the e-commerce giant it is today. The retailer we worked for (we were the largest internet/e-commerce professional services company at the time) felt they were going to put them out of business as they felt their almost 30 year lead in brand recognition, logistics/distribution would win the day. Obviously they did not get how digital was going to transform everything.

It's been years since I saw this, but wouldn't a jury of his peers let David Mills (Brad Pit) go? The man he killed had just murdered his wife, killing his unborn son, cut her head off, and shipped it to him. If I were on the jury, I wouldn't convict David. Maybe of some really low-level crime, but not of murder or manslaughter or anything like that.
@Hooga89
@Hooga89 11 ай бұрын
He would get a second-degree murder charge in the real world, and even if the jury/judge would go easy on him because of his wife's murder, the fact that he is a cop that kills someone in custody would be an aggravating circumstance. I think it's likely he would at least get 10-15 years. That said, it's not unthinkable that someone gets acquitted even when the evidence is overwhelming, see The People of the State of California v. Orenthal James(O.J) Simpson...

I don't know if you're old enough (or liked the oldies channel enough) to know the show, but its a really good show from the 60's. The show's main purpose was to make nazi's look like idiots, and the actors that played nazi's on the show (as regular characters) were Jews, every one of them.

It be movies like this that give non religious people a lot of disdain for those who are. Which I don't really like, but it's a great film nonetheless, a masterpiece even. David Fincher has a really dope directing style. Thanks for reassuring us you're not a serial killer, btw 😂😂😂 ....you're funny.
