The flaw in John’s quest is that he claims to want to punish sinners for sinning in order to keep more sin from occurring… however, he made Mills sin. Not that he wasn’t already a sinner, but his particular sin, wrath, was not one that he had already displayed… if you’re trying to do gods will, making sinners has to be a pretty bad way to conduct yourself… and that’s not even getting into the hypocrisy of being one of the very sinners you seek to punish.

Catholic theologian here. There were a few errors here but here are a couple: The theological belief in "concupiscence". Concupiscence is not just lust or lustful desires. Concupiscence is the innate desire in people to sin. Any desire to sin against God is tied back to concupiscence. Also, the primary purpose of intimacy (the marital act) is not only procreation. Post-Conciliar theology is that there are two ends of the marital act: procreation and spousal union (basically, for the good of the couple). As for lust being the "least bad" of the 7: The main reason lust is more, so to speak, "understandable" is that it's tied to a natural good: the marital act. Sex is a good thing, but fornication is man's desire to take sex outside of its natural goods, namely true union and procreation. Lust is seen better than, for instance, pride. Pride has no natural "good" attached to it.

This is one of those movie with soul crushing, bad ending. John Doe hits Mills precisely where he knew it will hurt, so he will get exactly what he wants. The way how Kevin Spicey acted in that final scene was absolutely phenomenal how coldly he managed to convey what was actually in the box. That final nail in the coffin with "Oh, you didn't knew" was absolutely chilling. And the fact, that we didn't get to see what's in the box, yet we could all figure out works actually better, than just showing us severed head on screen, because it relies on audience using imagination.

Sorrow, grief and hopelessness were sins because they show an absence of faith but they were taken off the list. Wrath almost made it out too, but was kept. There's a reference to them as The Beggars in Lars von Triers' Antichrist. First thing that hit me when you mentioned the safe deposit box was a lot of money or something very valuable. Remember his profile included he was independently wealthy. And yeah! Many similarities between him and Jigsaw!

Didn't think of this on my first viewing, it was only a few rewatches that made me realize that there was a weird thing that bugged me about John Doe's plan-- was that it ultimately hinged on him finding someone wrathful enough to kill him that he could also envy enough to deserve it in his own mind. And given how meticulous he is with some of his plan (cutting off all the fingerprints and tattoos, etc.) other parts of his plan would have been impossible to plan-- like when he started 'killing' Sloth one year earlier, Detective Mills hadn't even moved into the city with his wife yet, so he started his 7 deadly sins murders without the ending being planned yet which... is kinda weird right, for how otherwise meticulous he was in other aspects? So I'm both fascinated and disappointed at the same time that this comic book addressed it by confirming he went about his murders in a bit more improvisational way, finding people who fit the bill for each murder as he went along. Personally I would have liked to have seen the reverse approach where he was able to find all the victims and concoct the full plan first and then set it into motion-- the potency of planning out all these own murders including his own death-by-cop a full year in advance by profiling the exact targets and then being that meticulous and patient giving his mission even more intense self-righteous calculating potency.

I always wondered how John would’ve reacted if David didn’t shoot him, or if Somerset prevented him from killing John by throwing his switchblade at David’s vest like he did in the script. The one thing John didn’t (or did) count on was someone else intervening to save a sinner from their sins.

OMG! Yes! Getting off caffeine the last time about 16yrs ago when I found out was pregnant. I was off for about 14yrs. Unfortunately, I started again with Diet Coke couples years back and ugh…. Wish I’d never started again

Ppl usually say the year long torture was the worst, but i always feel for both the lust victims. Even if the dude was married nothing they did even comes close to the punishment

Seeing the shit John's drunken, abusive "mother" pulled, it's no wonder dear ol' dad ran like hell. 😒

@@shawnhand9531 CZs Complete History videos and all the Boots to Reboots with the official theme song are S Tier videos. I'd kill for an Avengers level crossover between CZ, Andy, Doctor Wolfula and Dead Meat.

6:38 Just a heads up, the "t" in apostle and "p" in corps are silent 😄and 30:21 "Yea" in this context is pronounced more like "yay" and means "yes" or "indeed". 7:33 I don't know where you got "Sorrow" from, that is incorrect. He used the word "Acedia" which translates to "apathy". Basically, what he meant was not caring about one's own condition or the condition of those around them.

Since you are passionate about details... We actually can trace the history, family and background of Krishna in Hinduism. It's like, heavily documented in multiple texts, and almost every Hindu kid is told the same stories about him, from before his birth to after his death... Not the example you were looking for!

Bro, zach. I know you’ll see this eventually. I love your videos! I watched them all and I watch them since a couple years (I think when I started following your channel it existed since 3-4 years.)but lately, I missed a couple, as I see there are like 4 videos I haven’t watched. I’ll watch them rn but before, let me just tell you that I really like these videos, especially the ones about the conjuring and insidious universes! Big love from Montreal, Quebec! 😃

I don’t feel bad for the people that were the Pride, Greed and Sloth kills(save for the method that was used to kill Sloth), but the Lust, Gluttony, Wrath and Envy kills were completely uncalled for.
