This is perhaps the best known poem by John Masefield, first published in 1902 as part of his poetry collection: Salt Water Ballads.

It's a bit beyond me for now, but, it'll probably still be available when I can afford it. It's got so many interesting and famous names in it. 🙂 A dictionary would maybe be a cheaper one to start on. 🙂

Once again I felt like the young girl headed for her English class. My teacher would ask us to read and recite from memory certain poems. This was one of them that was given to me. I always thought it was a silly thing to do and yet today I wouldn't trade that memorable feeling for anything! I will save and refer to this often.

This poem is one of the reasons, no matter the weather, I love to be at the sea. Our coast is smooth and sandy. But I long to see the rough coast of the north Atlantic and see the waves crash on the rocks. But I do love the sea and all her creatures and treasures. This was an very enjoyable listen.
