I watch Ocean Conversation Namibia all the time. They help Cape Fur Seals that are entangled. As these are much smaller than Sea Lions, they run in and catch them by hand, or with a net, cut the entanglement away and the seal heads back into the ocean with minimal trauma from the event and feeling so much better.

C Cruise Burning the garbage is also bad because it causes a lot of air pollution. I’m not sure the best solution to the garbage. 🤷‍♀️

OMG! These poor mammals suffering because of humankind. This video, even though it is seven years old, highlights just one of the multitudes of problems faced by so many innocent mammals, animals and birds. I appreciate this video, although it was shocking and upsetting to watch. Thank you VanAqua, as well as MMRC, for ALL of the work you do. I am only now becoming aware of the great work you people do, thanks in part to the adorable rescue sea otter named Joey 💗

I am a hunter (though not a professional, whatever that means) and I know many, many hunters. I don't know a single one who wouldn't be thrilled to be allowed to participate in a conservation effort like this. Hunters love nature, and in the US we are by far the largest source of money for conservation (both via taxes requested by hunters and anglers and through voluntary contributions, to the tune of $1.2B per year). The thing is, we're not marine veterinarians (or at least most of us aren't).

@@IRosamelia Naude from OCN has stated over and over that he can't use tranquilizers for various reasons. There's no way they'd be tackling a sea lion of this size either - they pretty much top out at around 150kg with their fur seals for safety reasons. Another complication is location - there aren't too many seals where I'm at and entanglements aren't a significant issue in the Great Lakes. That said, who do you think it is who helps when two bucks get locked together or when an elk falls into an icy pond and gets stuck? It's the people who are actually out in nature doing things, like hunters.

They are doing this with seals in Namibia except they use a net instead of a dart gun. They are on a smooth beach, not rocky.
