My theory: Humanity found some way to harness souls and use them as power. They then used this to create huge machines and attempt to colonize one of our greatest fears, the bottom of the ocean. In the beginning humanity was very successful building cities and factories etc. Everyone lived wearing diving suits that allowed them to move around underwater as well as use their souls. People began to miss the land so they set up large religious temples worshiping land animals. Unfortunately the creatures at the bottom of the sea overpowered humanity, killing most of them. As a Hail Mary, humanity turned their biggest religious temple into a machine that could destroy all creatures at the bottom of the sea. Eventually there was only one person left. That person is our character who goes through this epic journey to activate the machine and free mankind and use the soul machine to lead them all to the surface.
@peperika78452 жыл бұрын
Yeahhh! I really like this theory too! I think maybe those creatures consumed the humans’ souls or something and our character steals the light or “souls” back from the monsters and uses that machine which in turns returns them back to everyone via those light beams.
@masonreid11532 жыл бұрын
The theory would make sense but how did the sea creatures chain all the scubadivers to the bottom of the ocean and why were there humans acting like birds in a tree (maybe they'd missed animals do much that they did it like you said)
@missmalaphor57862 жыл бұрын
@@masonreid1153 those are good points. Maybe there were sacrifices that were chained and sent down or maybe those who opposed the religion were exiled. Perhaps the humans tried to fit their tech into the ecosystem by making themselves one with it, like the bird people eating grubs or the factory crab.

Nice video once again, Mike! Your playthroughs and theory videos are some of my favorites to listen while I draw/paint so thanks for making content! Personally I have two theories about the story. My first theory was kinda humankind vs. nature since the main character(or characters, to me it seems there's multiple divers powering the machine but only one at the end so idk) uses and kills sea creatures to power up a giant machine and the sea seems polluted, but the ending doesnt really make sense with this theory. Other interpretation I had is that the character is going through a some kind of religious journey and is enlightened at the end. The ending reminds me of the Last Judgement where those who have faith will be resurrected and maybe the machine is their god.

This was a really interesting game, it's a super cool concept and it was really pretty. I'm really interested in the lore that'll be found or made up about this, and something I noticed, though it might not actually be accurate or it might have already been noticed, was that the main particles looked like a crescent moon, which was also on the top of a big tower in the cityscape and could have something to do with the (lore's) history or even a symbolic meaning (like how being that deep down and underwater plus being surrounded by old machinery and monstrous creatures is like being in an eternal night with/or the emptiness of an ancient abandoned world and that type of feel/deal), and pause, stop, and play button-looking ones (like those on DVD players or remotes for TVs, which also relates to the static-y sounds, kind of/maybe also the machinery, and mainly the possibility of that "soul" stuff being electricity, as SHBro mentioned at some point). (Apologies for how long this is.. again, clearly interested in the lore behind it- It'd be cool to see some other ideas, if anyone is interested in sharing)

Though it was not as satisfying as it has the potential to be. I think the story was, that some type of society was made living underwater for whatever reason we don't know. Due to the dangers, they were trapped inside and the convenience and comfort o their society crumbled. To stay safe they also remained stagnant with no progress in their escape. It seems they continue to surface after their hero, our character makes it possible. There's a lot of technology I think that the people have developed to survive that deep underwater for a lot period and that's just including this playthrough for our character. They also found a way to possess other animals with a certain level of energy or to be more scientific and able to manipulate the animals. It's also unclear if they went WAY up into the surface as we still see them swimming up. It's also unknown what above the surface will even be like, it could be ruins. I think it holds symbolism of both stagnancy, and the crumble of dystopian/unbalanced societies or at least societies not willing to confront their problems and rely on the progress of new discoveries. However, that's just my interpretation.
