Loving the game on PS5, I’m glad Sony put it on PS Plus day one. I loved their previous game The Messenger as well, and it’s usually on sale for less than $5. Sabotage is an amazing studio.

Call them what they are: a callback to nostalgia for older people; and a weird curiosity for younger people who didn't grow up with pixel art. This is just another overused fad that hurts more than it helps. This is the 2020s cel-shaded equivalent.

I always got a kick out of how a game being repetitive was deemed a negative. EVERY GAME IS REPETITIVE! Whatever the game is you're going to get a lot of that type of game. It's like these guys are pissed that Street Fighter doesn't turn into Madden halfway through or something.

You do unlock ultimates, swapping characters, and the added combos/moves you get keep the it interesting enough throughout the game imo.

Gonna wait for the physical release. As someone who grew up playing Super Nintendo RPGs and Sea of Stars being heavily inspired & influenced by Super NES era RPGs, this game is easily one of my most anticipated 2023 games. It just sucks that the game right now is digital only & that the physical version isn't releasing until early 2024 because I really really want this game physically. Thank goodness that I got plenty of games to play this year to keep me busy until next year when I can finally get my hands on both the PS5 & Switch physical copies of Sea of Stars. Some things are worth waiting for. Also hope that they release a physical version of the amazing gorgeous soundtrack🤞🤞

Just finished the game today. Started off amazing but the story fell short for me at the end. It almost seems like they forgot they were writing a story and just came up with something last minute to wrap it up. Dropped it to an 8/10 for me.

The whole issue with combat could have been easily rectified with a simple fix - make combos more accessible. There are a ton of them but they're all locked behind a combo meter that takes forever to build up.

I plan to do similar. I'll more than likely buy a physical copy just to support physical media regardless of how I end up feeling about the game. The demo was pretty OK for me. I don't expect the full game to be much different: cool dungeons, so-so story (that I couldn't care less about), meh combat.

Can't decide when I want to start lol. I'm still working on Kuro no Kiseki. Looks awesome aside from the shared character level: I like giving characters individual levels because it allows the developer to mechanically account for the relative power levels and lived experiences of the character. FF4, Phantasy Star 4, and Trails in the Sky FC are strong examples of using the level mechanic to communicate that aspect of the narrative to the player.

Tales of combat is not even that good. I rather play basic turn based game than mid action combat. Played Berseria and Vesperia, both combat are just fine

A game especially a rpg can have the best stories or graphhics etc. If the rpg systems surrounding the combat are too shallow im bored and uninterested. Unless its a new series or game where i dont expect that. It's clear that the ones saying it captures the essence are being manipulated by the marketing and their own emotions. It's important to remove your emotions when reviewing. Many haven't. I personally absolutely LOVE Sea of Stars and have purchased it on all platforms to support and inspire others to get into making games like this as they are my favorites and would love more of them. But let's keep it real. If you sit back and listen to some of these 10 out of 10 reviews and some of the vocabulary used in these reviews, it's actually a little laughable

This game is seriously overrated. The demo was OK at best. I'll play it, since I can do so without buying it. I'll also probably buy a physical copy, strictly to support physical releases. But yeah, this game is so overhyped. Just like Baldur's Gate 3 omg.

The battle system is a make it or break it component to rpgs for me. Does anyone know if the combat here is too boring simple? No job classes? No skill trees? No unique character skills and stats? No combat mechanic outside "fight item defend skill run etc" I played the outright horrible cringe FF10-2 simply because it had one of the most fun, fast paced, and diverse combat systems I've ever seen. The story, plot, pacing, dialogue....so much cringe bad....but I went through with it because the combat was that damn good.

They have unique skills. You gain experience and can choose which stat to level up. You can get hit and defence bonuses by timing your battle touches like in Mario rpg. There’s a stagger system as well. It’s a bit more complicated then that so I recommend watching an in depth KZbin review. Most have praised the combat. If you love turn based combat you will love octopath traveler 2, if you haven’t okayed that already. Combat is so good in that game.

There's a demo available for Switch and PS. I don't know about Xbox. The combat in the demo was OK; if it doesn't get any better than choosing specific attacks to minimize enemy damage, then it's gonna get boring fast.
