Sea of Thieves: A Poor Sailor's Guide to Solo [Sloop Survival]
Do you have any tips on Solo slooping? And as I always answer, I have plenty on my channel, but the increasing demand allowed me to create innovative guides, to complement newly added features to the game. It is not a flexing video, "Solo sloop sinks galleon EZ win 360 tucc air snipe," As some of these videos will also show how and why I sunk, this is the first of the Solo Sloop Series. It is a walkthrough so you can learn the right way and improve your skills. I will narrate over the video so we can point out situations based on practice. Phuzzy here, sit back, relax and enjoy.

we were having fun in the game with a 3-man Brigantine and fiund the reaper flag which we just set up before they just said for me to stay aboard the ship to look "just in case" not 2 minutes later a player ship came to us, shot two cannonballs that killed me and nobody guarded the ship for 2 minutes due to me lagging in the ferry of the damned, then when i was respawning, I heard my friends saying "you can just take the items what do you mean the reaper flag was bad idea" then the enemy squad just yelled into their mic something like "don't fucking fly a reaper flag if you don't know how to pvp" and the others in his squad laughed. We did say that we don't know the game mechanics because we just wanted to have fun in our freetimes, and the enemy squad just laughed again and said "Learn the mechanics to have fun dumbass" and the ship sunk then and they only stole a single skull and left the 4 other things worth 5k on the ship. We were confused because the players seemed very toxic but also left us loot.

And this is on his own! With Jackie there its even rarer. And maybe you are right, but based on all the proof I have seen from UNCUT streams, its very VERY rare. Deep FryMe I was in a small alliance 1 one other sloop and I was in the party with him. Me and my friend were pretty far from him, and he was getting fought by a reapers ship. He got mega kegged, died, and respawned and somehow saved his ship. He told me that the guy didn’t light the fuze quick enough, and missed the board. He ended up getting about 10 holes, but all were in the back of the ship. If the guy lit the fuze a second sooner, the ship would’ve sunk.

A little tip of my own I found thanks to another creator’s guide: Blunderbombs have knockback that can affect an entire ship, and as a Pirate who is terrified of PvP to say the least, aiming at the front of the ship will turn it away. Although, if by chance you’re a bloodthirsty pirate, aiming at the back will send them right towards you, possibly giving you a chance to board if the stars are in your favor. Edit: Fixed typo

I have similar rules, I play Open Crew brig until I can convince some friends to join me, yes, I attack new players, but I don't target them, I'll just fire indiscriminately. And if I lose, I accept that, but I have no objections if my crew wants 'revenge' seen as it's a chance for more combat and that means I'll learn better.

Indi Maybe i shouldn’t have written "three" galleons, cuz i sunk one of two galleons twice. Basically they were doing a mission so i gunpowdered them, which somehow worked but I do remember the other fight! After i sunk them, they fled into the fog. When i left the fog, i saw two galleons standing next to esch other with alliance flags in the distance. I trailed left, to a Kraken Watch Tower, and grabbed a keg. I then swam with the keg from the fort to the two galleons, didnt care about my ship at that point. I know they didnt have loot, but i wanted was practice. So i gunpowdered one of the ships, and boarded. Apparently they thought they were in the clear because they were all on one of the ships, not spread out. Then i just guarded the ladders and killed two of them while doing so. The last two didnt come up, but the ship sunk. I jumped off the back of the ship and quickly swan to one of them. The other one didnt see me, because the shipwreck was in the way. So i did the same with him, and swam back to the fort, grabbed a keg, and blew up the other ship. This time i went below deck, and hid next to the lower stairs and killed anyone who tried to repair. Once i started to drown, i went up the stairs and ran unto one of them. He was holding a bucket, i was holding a blunderbuss. Another guy tried to sword me, i jumped over the stair entrance and ran above deck. I waited on the other side of the stairs and killed him once he came up. I went to get ammo and food, when i saw that my ship sunk. I assumed that those were the remaining two guys, so i swam to the fort from the now sunk ship and checked for them. I took a mermaid because either they did the same or i suck at hide and seek.

Combat is a means of communication. The better your ability to comprehend the enemy and to prevent them from understanding you, the better your chances at being victorious. Not all fights can be won with superior ciphers and comprehension, as you may not understand all they are telling you. Assume they mean more and be receptive to their stories to ensure your can read your foe like a book of simple meaning.

Use the wind, make sure the wind blows the wrong way for them. *Note #2 : Harpoon at the ground to turn 5. Straight line for repairs 6. If they go in circle : They probably have no one driving 7. Always keep them distracted with something (Ex : Firebombs) *Note#3 : I can throw firebombs with cannons :o) 8. Bottom deck hits sound different 9. Triangle approach Thank you for your amazing guide again!! Question : Do you do you ever do arenas to practice fighting?

Solo slooping is an art form. It's all about timing and multitasking. Big mistake many make is being over stressed about the damage, sloops are easy to bucket to buy time. Also anchor turns are quite nice to throw off unorganized crews. And main thing to look out for is the harpoon of death to the backside, that's the hardest thing to get out of as a solo sloop

I have, however, done some sick stuff like decieving pirates because I'm clearly not as good just yet. I've traveled long distances with all my loot on a rowboat because of being out numbered.

Solo slooping usually sucks but it can help with captaining a ship since you get used to doing everything yourself it makes it easier to let your crew know what they need to do.

Thank you for this great content. I solo brigandine, i know it looks stupid or noobish but it gives some advantages when you are used to it.
@captain_britain

As someone who's played since launch and used to do this a lot, I'd recommend against it. Yes, it's doable, and gives a speed advantage (and a great way to practice micromanagment - I have no doubt you're a skilled sailor); but you WILL encounter combat scenarios you can't win. An enemy boarder dropping the anchor, for instance, is an instant L as long as their crew finds an advantageous position and opens cannon-fire. Plus, it's been tested and proven (I believe Phuzzy made a video about why even *duo* slooping is inadvisable) that brigs sink faster than sloops. One could argue that none of this matters if you're proactive in avoiding conflicts, but you will waste valuable time taking those additional precautions, and if the enemy crew are skilled and pursue relentlessly (which many will), you won't be able to keep up with their faster sail management, effectively negating your speed advantage and ensuring that you'll get caught or cornered eventually. Didn't mean for this to be an essay, but those are my fifteen cents on the matter. If I haven't convinced you, then I wish you good fortune on your solo brig endeavors!

@@captain_britain first im sorry if my english is not right, it is not my native language but i will still try to explain my point of view as clearly as i can. Yeah i agree with almost everything of what you say. This is why i didnt say solo brig is better than solo sloop. There are pros and cons. Its mainly a question of playstyle and how u r approaching solo. When i play solo, if i want grind or pve, i clearly prefer avoid the fight. Manage your ship and manage the enemy ship (if its two or more players) is nearly impossible if the enemy knows how to play correctly. Its not only me, I saw tons of solo streamers and maintime its really difficult and long to win the fight if not loose. With this point of view, avoiding the fight is better and, at the end, will buy more time and will earn more gold. For this purpose ( avoid and flee), brig is better, clearly. * First point, against the wind sloop is faster but not so much (~5%), with the wind brig is much faster (~20 to 50% depend the direction). So with a brig you will achieve objectives faster and your time on the sea will be shorter. At the end, gold per hour is higher (i tested it many times). * Second point, bail is easier not because its faster (that is not true, its same speed) but because u can drive and bail, on a sloop u have stairs slowing you when you want to come back to drive. * Third point, brig is more intimidating. Solo brigs or duo brigs are rare so players think its always a crew of three people. Main time, solo sloop and even duo sloop will stay away. However, against a trio brig it will be difficult even to flee....as it will for a solo sloop. Gallion are rare and not so difficult to escape. As a solo sloop i stop to count how many times i was attacked. As a solo brig, its rare (i count that on a total of ~ 1500 hours, mainly in solo) * Fouth point, u can turn on open crew if its really hard to flee. Now if someone is looking for fights as a solo player, in this case brig is not advice, i agree. I treat here only the aspect of avoiding fight and flee. After many hours tested both i clearly prefer use solo brig than solo sloop if i want to grind. If i want to solo fight, i obviously prefer use sloop. You should try it one day, give solo brig a chance, u will see its not that awfull and when u will come back to sloop after dozens of hours oooooh damn u will feel slow ^^. Have a nice game.

Lesson: I do not grasp the value of fire in a fight. Here, it seemed clear, but I most certainly wouldn't have even thought of it. I am still living the pre-ship damage life. It was a simple time. Where you just shot up ships, jumped on board, died to double gun, and respawned on the other side of the planet. Though on the serious, this does inspire the desire to practice ship combat. The new arena should serve well for that purpose!

In "The Book of Five Rings", Miyamoto Musashi talks about how he never worried about fighting loud, arrogant swordsmen who liked to boast. He warns the reader however; if you see a swordsman who seems completely relaxed and at peace with himself, then do NOT mess with him, because that guy is a *real* warrior. Galleon bois probably should have taken his advice.

@@PhuzzyBond how would you handle a galleon that sends boarders? I feel like with 3 on board and 1 constantly boarding you it's extremely difficult to win that
@PhuzzyBond
@PhuzzyBond 4 жыл бұрын
True, that's what happened yesterday, but I got all boarders instead, 4 players came to my sloop , killed me then I sunk. Keeping blunderbombs equipped is essential in solo slooping as it's great for knockbacks specially for multiple boarders. Unfortunately, Rare is pushing the game away from solo slooping, but the harder it gets, the harder we try! Best way is to always keep a distance and stay out of their cannon range, there is no way to stop a boarder from reaching your ship, but there is always a way to prevent him from climbing that ladder all the way. More guides will come soon 🤗

@@PhuzzyBond one thing I see that separates you from others is that you use chainshots alot, I find them so effective myself too, so I feel like maybe that's one way to at least balance out the fights a bit against a galleon. Doesn't stop boarders though I guess
