Rare's successful live-service pirate title Sea of Thieves is out on April 30th for PlayStation 5 after months of rumors, part of Microsoft's strategy of multi-platform games.
Launching with Season 12 on other platforms, it will have a closed beta before launch and early access for the full version. However, for those who haven't played the title, it's impressive to look at its gameplay loop and how much has changed since March 2018. Where there were only Trading Companies and the odd Kraken to fight, there are now narrative-focused quests, a stronger end-game and Safer Seas, private servers for those who prefer to opt out of PvE.
Of course, that's not counting the sheer range of cosmetics, High Seas shenanigans and more. Here are 15 things that new players on PS5 should know about Sea of Thieves before diving in.

If anybody was wondering it is cross progression so if you played on xbox or pc and now have a ps5 you can just log into Microsoft account and pick up where you left off. Also the beta is april 12th-15th

You don’t have to link accounts unless you want to play Crossplay with PC/Xbox. I think you’ll want to do that to increase the amount of players in the world

I think it is only about 30 players on a single server. but they are seamlessly merged, with no event changes, when populations get low. Sometimes you can go hours and see no players, sometime you can't avoid them. If you get overwhelmed by aggressive players you can server-hop (but your loot cannot come with you). If you can't find a fight by sailing around the sandbox, you can queue up for a dual. It works well, imo.

3:08 there absolutely are restrictions. You can only be up yo 2 players are on a sloop, 3 on a brigantine and 4 on a galleon. You cannot set sail with 3 friends on a sloop.

If playing it yourself use The Sloop ship. It is easy to manage on your own. It is better with others but there still comes this point that quickly, it all feels pointless. Still have fun if you do play it.

It can be pretty comfy to sail around in a sloop. If you want a bit of casual fun I would say it can be neat. Not going to lie though all the best moment's I've had in this game involved me sailing with friends or strangers.

I played the game on gamepass. I have both consoles so no favourites for me. It is OK for a while. Anytime I tried to start naval battle and killed a crew and did pirate stuff by taking their loot, people would cry or be aggressive. The spirit of being a pirate is crushed when most just flee as well and won't engage in battle. Sometimes they just sail off the map rather than have a battle and lose their loot. It doesn't take long to realise the loot is relatively worthless and I reckon the only reason this is on Playstation is to prop up the falling player base, to keep gamepass engagement high, as there isn't many games of note on Xbox in terms of first party exclusives these days. I wonder if there will be visual parity or gimped by microsoft to be lesser than the Series X version?

Barely anyone in the game runs anymore and even if they do they can’t go off the edge of the map anymore because there loot will just spawn right next to the ship that’s chasing them if they sink out of the map
