I have a friend who did a similar swap, he had a 24’ skipjack with a 5.7, swapped to the same 1.7 Cummins. I wen out off shore with him fishing, what a sweet boat that was, good cruise speed up on plane, got close to 7mpg as well. It did sit a little awkward due to the difference in engine weight, solved that by moving fuel tank aft.

So nice to hear this. This too is a 24' and 5.7. We figured the differences and I will be shaving about 400lbs off of it. I plan to offset with lithium solar batteries and a second fresh water wank. I do thank you for sharing your experience in a project almost the same.

I don't know about you, but I am excited. lol...This is awesome to see it fire up. Can't wait to see everything together and you taking it out for its maiden voyage. Well it's not it's real maiden voyage but it is since it's rebuild. Loving this boat build series. Living the life brother. I love it. Hope to be there one day myself doing the same thing. Stay safe brother.

Great video! I like your DIY experience James. I'm nowhere near your knowledge level, but it's a joy to watch you figure things out. My first thought when you mentioned a "sandblaster" was "where is he going to get that"? Then you mentioned that you brought it with you! Given the tropical climate and rust issues, it would seem to be something high in demand out there!

There are lots of good electrical shops in the city, surely they can rebuilt the old starter and. make if a spare for the sea ray, I remember the Canadian blogger Ben and his wife Ashley of sailing nahoa when they are Cebu they brought the old starter and have it repaired the electrician repaired it good as brand new.

Gotta love the sound of a good runnin happy diesel engine. It’s one of my favorite sounds. Everyone thinks rolling coal is cool but I don’t. That’s actually bad for the engine. This thing sounds and looks like it’s happy and ready for work 👍

Now that it ran awhile and got bled out good it stopped smoking also. Just purrs. I let it run for about 30 minutes the other day.

@@TexasFilipino usually does take awhile to break them in and cold starts can be difficult sometimes but after they’re warmed up it’s smooth as butter. I could tell from the sound that it wanted to run and work again and you did a great job 👍

If you take a long handle screwdriver and put it over each cylinder, one at a time and put your ear against the screwdriver you can listen to the engine for early signs ot trouble. 👍👍

And here I thought at the beginning when you said you wanted to repaint the pan, I automatically thought you would paint it with purple paint to make it look more exotic, purple bits are always more expensive. Yes, sir, she sounds like a runner. Are you ready to go water skiing yet behind your pump boat?

Want to get rid of rust forever use POR 15 .. bit you just overcoat if used in sunlight. Navy used to use on ships but .. of course now use a much much more expensive new process. POR 15 is brushable and it wicks into rust

James why did you paint the inside of the oil pan
@TexasFilipino2 жыл бұрын
It was already painted. Please realize this is a saltwater boat. Salt gets in everything in all kinds of ways. A engine crankcase breathes and it will draw in salt mist over time and that salt will damage the metals especially something like that sheet metal pan I know your thinking is that oil is in it and no way it can rust but you would be highly wrong to think that. The previous damage to this pan was from the salt in fact and why it needed to repaired.

Coat the pan with epoxy, you probably shouldn't have painted the inside

@@TexasFilipino my bad, it looked like the same fresh paint in the camera as on the outside that you painted. Seems weird that it's painted being that it is constantly covered in oil

love your channel & have followed for years but as a safety tip please watch --blastone international on youtube . subject--( is silica sand safe to use as a blasting abrasive )
@TexasFilipino2 жыл бұрын
I used sand from the beach so for your knowledge also here is some information "When we talk about silica exposure we are talking about crystalline silica or quartz. Construction workers could be exposed to silica when cutting, grinding, drilling, sanding, mixing, or demolishing materials containing silica. The size of the airborne silica particles determines the amount of risk. Smaller particles can be inhaled deep into the lungs where they can cause damage. Larger particles, such as beach sand, are not as great a concern because they are too large to inhale."
