Seachem Flourish Excel review and black beard algae talk. This product is liquid carbon CO2 and sort of replaces the idea of CO2 in your aquarium. If you overdose Seachem excel though, you will see a huge spike in algae growth. If used properly, it can really help cut back on algae growth.

I tripled dosed this for a week in my 360 l tank. Now my plants are thriving due to the fact that they aren't suffocated by BBA. I haven't lost a single plant (even cryptos or moss balls) or a single fish. My tank looks so much better. Wish I'd known about this stuff before...

fluctuation of co2 also cause algue,so try to dose it everyday in low tech tank,small dosage but constant,by dosing once week ,you gonna have more algue

You have to use it regularly and after 2 or months you start to notice the reduction of algae, sometimes I think that the exel is to prevent the formation of algae, to the already existing ones, depending on the type of algae it will be more or less effective, it is more a preventive treatment

Somehow I missed this video first time around but glad I found it. For algae control only: Have you ever tried removing plants and treating with Excell (double dose) in a bucket? Of course it would only work for plants like annubias and Buce that aren't rooted to anything. I've read where people have done it for BBA. I'm considering trying it in a new tank that is minimally planted (about 12 swords, crypts and annubias) but has BBA. The BBA came in on the swords. I normally do H2O2 dips on new plants but this time I didn't (big mistake). I'm waiting on reply from SeaChem as to a safe dose. It would be nice side effect to get some growth from my red swords. Only fertilizer I'm using are root tabs. Good video Chris.

I'm trying to find a solution for bba, and watching your video did not teach me anything or add anything to my knowledge. You read the label on the bottle and gave your opinion about the naming of the product. I'm sorry but this is not a very useful video. You are indeed blabing too much and not really saying anything useful, and for someone who watches you for the first time, it was very annoying and time wasting, and I dont think I will be back to this channel again for advice about aquariums, because it doesnt seem like you provide much anyways!

Started using this now all my snails are dying. Because they are starving to death! After my Siamese algae cleaned off everything nothing grew back. If I had known about Excel prior I would not have gotten the fish. I have so many snails I am going to have to put them back in the canal where I got them.

@@visioncorp5228 The Siamese Algae eater cleaned up is what I meant. He was only in a 20 gal and in a few weeks he ate every last spec of Algae. So there was no Algae for the snails. I had put like 100 snails in there! I just wanted the Algae gone.The Siamese algae eater is the champion. I was amazed but he grew so fast and became aggressive then he jumped out the tank. I found him on the floor in the morning. Now I have CO2 on both my tanks and some real lights and heavily planted tank. I have over 60 fish in my 40gal. Smaller fish nothing over 2 inches. 2 golden plecos and a zebra loach are a little bigger than 2 inches. I don't need snails now just two oto's the plants and CO2 keep the Algae a a minimum. I haven't used excel for years. CO2 and heavily planted from now on. I never wanted that many fish but the bastards wouldn't stop breeding LOL. My bright idea let me put a male and female in there! Don't do it 30 fry every 30 days .

I just went through a major issue with hair algae. Got it from a wood piece that I purchased at a local fish store. So I have been removing my ornaments from the tank, scrubbing them with just a brush and then letting them sit in the sun for about two or three days. It helped but still had a few little hairs around. I put some in a pond that we have with catfish and it seemed to get rid of them. I put some of the other ornaments back into the tank and it just started again. So I did a major cleaning. Down to picking through the substrate. I didn't have live plants so the ornament plants got a scrub and sun thing. I waited about a week in the sun and that definitely helped. I have then planted many different plants into the aquarium and added a large ornament back into the tank that had the hair algae previously. Started using this product the same day. I still had some substrate with the hair algae on them because it is a battle. I would find some under the upper substrate too. I think from just siphoning and moving them around. I am on day 4 and haven't seen any hair algae so far. Usually by now I would see some starting to float around and start growing on the glass. I hope this experience helps you!! So far I haven't added anything but the Excel flourish. My tank is 150 gallon, by the way.

It is liquid carbon. At night, when the lights are off plants stop photosynthesising. Instead they they take in oxygen and expel co2. So by adding seachem excel at night wouldnt that be to much co2 in the water column. I don't want to risk killing my fish. Just my cautious nature
@amandac9294
@amandac9294 3 жыл бұрын
@@urbansk8r231 you can dose at night and it shouldn't hurt your fish. It's not really a replacement for Co2, it is a carbon supplement that CAN make up for carbon deficiencies, and can act as an algaecide to get control of your tank while you dial back light/nutrients.
@urbansk8r231

@@amandac9294 Hi thanks for the reply. Yes i lm well aware of the properties of excel through my research. I know its a pesticide and its also used to add carbon for low light plants.. The point i was making though was at night plants expel co2 . Co2 has carbon in it. So if you dose excel (which is a carbon source) at night like you said then that would be excess carbon. When it comes to my aquatic pets, their welfare comes first. So thats why at night i run an airstone to expel excess carbon , just to be on the safe side. I have a med-high light planted tank so i run pressurized co2. When i first started I've tried all the different types of carbon from excel, api co2 boster (another carbon source), diy co2, and now pressurized co2. Atm im spot dosing with excel on bba. Its working but its a slow process. Shrimps love it though. Well have a lovely weekend

It's because the active ingredient is glutaraldehyde which is a disinfectant/sterilizer. So what it really does is act as an algaecide and promote growth of your plants by removing algae on them blocking them from getting light and other nutrients. It's completely false advertising and I'm pissed because I lost my little baby because of this crap. It's also the same ingredient in Stress Guard by Seachem, so when your fish isn't doing so well from this, give them another dose with Stress Guard and make sure to send them to an early grave.
