Tillykke med Madam Blå! Fantastisk at følge fødslen og være med til søsætningen

hi Per, beautiful boat! i'm thinking about build the same. i built 2 stitch and glue/tape non-sailing boats so far, so about the hulls is not a problem. i would like to know about your opinion about the level of detail of the plans about the sail/control part, the most "mysterious" for me. i'm a beginner about sailing, and since the plans are relatively expensive i would like to be sure everything is written about pulleys, ropes and other topics i'm not expert at all. thanks! David

Hi, I did not reproduce the sail plan exactly, I chose to buy a Laser Radial rig (the training version, not approved for racing) as this was cheaper and simpler than building mast/boom, and having a sail made specially for this boat. The Laser Radial sail has almost the same area as the Seaclipper 10 drawings, however the boom is longer. I have moved the mast appx 15 cm forward to obtain the right balance in the boat. This has worked out fine. I have not attempted to mount a spinnaker, but I believe that the drawings shows how to do it and I think it is doable. Building rudder and rudder controls was easy, but there is a bit of friction in the control lines, meaning that the feeling of the rudder is not so good. Other feedback that I can give is that I find it hard to get in and out of the boat, specialy in a harbour/pier/jetty, because the boat tilts forward when you move out of the cockpit and move forward. I think the boat will work better if lauched from a shallow beach. Regards, Per

@@perchristoffersen8660 thanks for the feedback Per. Beach is exactly my case. I'm trying to contact them for buy plans but so far no luck. I hope their business still running. Happy sailing!)

Bruno

Hi, now I do not know what you have done to contact John Marples (designer), but here are the links that I have used: e-mail: marplesmarine@gmail.com, and I have bought the drawings on this link: www.searunner.com/index.php/seaclipper-10 (there is a paypal link at the bottom of the page). I do have all the drawings in .pdf format, but I have promised John not to distribute those, to protect his intellectual rights. I guess that he still has a small income from the designs although he is now appx 80 years old. Kind Regards, Per

Thanks Per. The links are good. I just didn't see the Paypal link on the Seaclipper10 presentation page. Thank you for taking the time to read me and especially for responding to me. I will finally be able to order the plans thanks to you. Good day Very cordially. Bruno

per, can you tell me about the seaclipper10? How it goes upwind, the possible speed etc. Thanks.

@@Bruno-jq6ez Yes, first I will say that I am using a "Laser Radial" set of mast, boom and sail, this fits quite well, but the boom is a bit longer than the boom on the origininal drawings. To maintain a good balance of the boat, I have moved the mast 150 mm forward compared to the drawings, this seems to work fine. The boat is easy to sail but because it is a trimaran with 3 long narrow hulls it prefers to go in a straight line, it is slow turning and it looses speed during turns. Therefore tacking upwind is a bit tricky. I does sail rather well upwind, but you have to bend the mast quite a bit to make it work (like you would do on a Laser dinghy). The speed is not very high, 3-4 knots I guess, the hull shape does not allow it to do planing. I sail from a small harbour, but it is awkward to get in and out of the boat from a jetty, I think the boat would work better if launched from a beach. Best regards Per

Thank you Per for all this information. I am surprised by the maximum speed which I find relatively low for a trimaran. I expected double, at least 6 knots. I plan to start construction in the fall. Thanks again and good sailing on your pretty Seaclipper10. Bruno
