SeaDoo Jet Ski Not starting | Solenoid Starter Relay | How to fix DIY | Jetski fix

2005 SeaDoo Jet Ski was not starting. So we replaced the starter relay ( otherwise known as the Solenoid ). Here is a how to fix it DIY video for the average guy with a 10mm socket wrench. I purchased the part on Amazon for $14.50

Yikes - that engine compartment is filthy! . Glad you got it to work again. Cleaned the inside of mine with CLR mold/mildew remover - let soak in. Rinse with normal hose on jet setting. Lift trailer front to help drain the gunk out the back drain holes. Took a while, but sparkling clean now. 😁 Been having issues with hot engine starts - replacing the solenoid my self for the first time since purchase back in 2004.

I have found the only job that is not a knucklebuster on a SeaDoo is putting gas in it. 😂😂

If relay has failed you only hear clicking (not starter), but intermittent failure means the END IS NEAR. Left cap, then red end flips up for easy nut removal/threading, but finish w/red end fully seated on terminal. pack nut/thread and inside cap w/dielectric grease, be generous. No air=no corrosion

man my 2002 Sea-Doo gti is kicking my ass am hopping you can help me a bit! Back story I purchased to skis about two weeks ago never owned any 0 knowledge might have done a few boo boos I those first days of owning them I scared the web and I can say I think Iliana know a lot more now but am still pulling my hair with this sky I can’t get it to start ! When I purchased I didn’t start so obviously it help me to knock the price down it had a low battery at that time and first mistake I use my jump box to starter and still nothing, then I got home and in the next few day I tried to start it with the jumper add starter fluid and it did start for minor periods. Second mistake I didn’t know at that time that I had to start sky then water. Then water off then sky! I was trying to start it with the hose on and then of I was all over the place. Then I learn the cycle and said oh oh 😕 then I decided to buy a new battery because I learn that jumping the unit could damage the computer . So battery came in installed it connected my hose water off cranked it and boom sky fired right up turned the water on and I felt the idle was having issues felt to low so I started reving it a bit it satayed on for about 40 seconds to a minute and all of asl sudden I hear this grinding noice and. Off it goes and I haven’t been able to start it since then I check compression is like 120 both I check spark I see spark I added fuel in the carb and nothing it just cranks and cranks I’m thinking I might damaged the computer with the jump box but it did start once with the new battery?? What if you hit the button no nothing, dont get the click. But hit it a couple times it will start, but she wont turn over. Changed my sparks,cleaned the tank, changed fuel pump and housing. Still no turnover. Gtx wave pro

Sounds like a solenoid issue.

OEM everything but the pump... in the span of my comment to now, I've pulled the pump to check everything, now my brand new pump wont work... I'm at a loss to wtf I've done just pulling it same as last.. I check the pump out side of the ski it's working, but wont work installed... my ski will crank, just not turning over Up date... pump magically started working again.. no idea.. now checking my injectors.. and thank you guys for the info on the solenoid.

ive checked the batttery,good. power is getting to the selnoid, fuses r gettin power also. but i gettin no power to the cluster, no beeps just no power. im stumped and spent a day on utube trying to get a handle on it with no avail. no videos on what im trying to troubleshoot

Im not syre if this helps. But my 2006 rxt had a bad mpem after my brother flipped it and my cluster would turn on and the engine would run top speed of 35. But i replaced the mpem and it went right back to being awesome. Of course you have to marry the mpem but it fixed it. (I tried everything else before)

Purchased 1998 Bombardier unit was winterized last yr. Installed new battery, ski has plenty compression without plugs , struggles start. Does starter need be replaced? Any suggestions.

If it struggles to start than it's not the solenoid. That's about as much as I know for sure. I guess I would go down the line from there. But I would guess it's the starter. Wish I could be of more help on this.

If it was the solenoid, it wouldn't even give a struggle to start. It would just click or do nothing.

have a question. I have (2) 2012 Seadoo GTI 130’s. After riding a while on the ski we will kill the engine for a bit. When we go back to start it up. Nothing comes on. No computer no start. I will wiggle the fuse box wires and other wires a bit and Bam it’s starts! What is it??? Btw. Batteries are 3 years old. Also, both skis are doing this. ???

I'm sorry I can't help you with that. But my guess is it sounds like it might have something to do with the program in your keys. I'd start there.

Follow the positive wire from the battery and do a process of elimination until you find it

Would the check engine light pop up? I have a 2013 GTI 130 SE. Check engine limp mode but will not start... The click i'm getting is a little bit different than the one you were getting... Also found some oil in the bottom and some oil in the middle cylinder near the spark plugs... Any suggestion? Oil level is fine. Tried to run the codes but it said there was none. Battery voltage was right

I didn't get an engine light. Personally, I've heard the solenoid has been the issue in the majority of non-starts here.Honestly, I'd try a new solenoid.

What I've noticed with the majority of the people having issues with starting, is once a new solenoid goes in, the SeaDoo's start back up. ( if it's not the battery )

@@speaknsee Thank you, We charged the battery and the voltage was where it should be. It is strange because at first we got the jet ski running and then we turned it off and it won't turn back on... Hopefully its not something more major, I feel it can't be something that major since I am not getting any fault codes.

@@ryandell7522 I'd just do the basic's. Make sure the gas is clean and filter is good, check the plugs and if that's all good. I'd go with a solenoid

If it's getting fuel, it's a good chance that's your starter relay. solenoid

check the charge on your battery and if your battery is good. I'd try a new starter relay.
