On an old Johnson 35 hp I had a solenoid that quit me. Took it off and was able to drill out the rivets holding the back plate , clean the contacts, and then add two screws where the rivets were.

I have the same jet ski in the video. It runs awesome out of water but as soon as I put it in the water it has trouble staying crank

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hi Michael sorry to be back to this as I have exhausted all attempts to resolve this... I replaced relay and same thing... seems am not getting 12v low current to trigger/excite the relay... the pins in the existing harness seem bit corroded but I cut it out and ordered new... in the meantime I tested it by sending 12v from a PS to the old relay and it snaps.. so I reinstalled everything and still no click... I checked all fuses in from there a 5 or so and a 30a in the box in the back all good.. I tested the exciter wire and is strange am getting -5v and then +5 v when Stat/Stop is pressed... the is a black and yellow/Red wire... any Idea before take to the shop? Also I am in Canada and is ok keep in Garage without winterizing... I heard had to get like -12C to become an issue? Thanks again...in advance!

@@markhenke2709 Good morning ☕️ Great to hear from you. Bummer to hear you’re having trouble still. Corroded leads can cause havoc on electrical system, getting those cleaned up will help significantly. You may also have a short somewhere within the system causing the issue. It may be time to replace start/stop push-button and wiring kit. Bummer you’re having this issue now…because we filmed a substantial amount of helpful DIY videos on fixing jet skis this past summer. All those videos have been filmed, edited, and are currently in the Que for upgrade…which will begin at the beginning of 2024. One of which is the step-by-step process on replacing the start/stop push-button and wiring kit. We are always here to help and we are looking forward to hearing back from you. 👍🧰

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders How can be start /stop if the DI primer pump goes each time when put in DESS and each time press start/stop it goes? I beginning to share your theory there is a short or something... I did spray it good when first got it to clean so maybe over time something got corroded but it was running great for a month before... I hope is not the Main Brain but it gives 2 beeps when install DESS so thats supposed to be good no?

@@markhenke2709 Thanks for the follow up. Sounds like DESS key is A-ok. Corroded leads or short is likely. Loose or corroded connections on the actual Sarter…🤔…maybe a weak bendix gear inside case that mates with Starter and Flywheel…

I hooked up my batteries backwards. Now the jet ski won’t start. Did I fry the starter relay?

Thanks for watching Dale. When this happens, it usually performs an immediate drain on your battery. Before anything, we recommend checking the battery with volt meter. If the battery is very low volt-wise…charge it back up to 12v. That might be the issue. If not, next part is your relay. Please keep us posted Dale. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders battery is Fully charged. I’m getting 12 volts to the relay. Is there a way to test the relay. The fuse in the plug next to the relay is good. Thanks for your quick reply.
