I like tying it in either white or grizzly with a red hackle tied in the front. Sometimes I use bead chain eyes for a little weight. Great for Specs and the occasional Snook. You can use a little mono loop for weed guard also. Good Bass fly as well.

All great colors for sure! Ever get reds hitting the red head ones? For some reason reds out here like those red headed flies. Not sure I’ve ever seen a mullet with a red head but hey! Haha! And yes if you want a weed guard or some weight then for sure add those things. I rarely add weed guards to any fly. Just where I fish it’s not necessary

White and red, yellow and chartreuse are two color combos I've done well with.

I use 4 feathers of extra long saddle hackle. Use the tips for the tail and then tie it down and then wrap the hook shank with the rest of the feather so that it's a continuation of the feathers. Makes it to where I only use 4 feathers, hook, thread

Yes they can be used In freshwater. I have a friend who fishes them a lot for bass.
