Had a 40GB in some rubbish e-waste P4 desktop. PC died to capacitors years ago, still not gotten around to fixing those, harvested the drive. Drive went on to serve in many a teenager's computing adventure, from running every version of Windows you could imagine, to running obscure systems like NeXTSTEP. Stopped using it though, it's the worst sounding thing ever. So loud, I'd rather use an 80s drive at that point, those at least sound pleasant.

I think you're referring to the 40gb u6 right? To be honest this seagate u10 spindle is actualy very quiet, it sounds loud in the video because the microphone was right on top of it. Maybe the bearings on yours worn down

@@Mathmos252 Tell you what, I just ran through my pile of HDDs and as it turns out, the loud P4 desktop drive was in fact a WD400. I'm trying to get it working on a 386 at the moment. The Seagate drive I was talking about was rather used for a much higher end P4 gaming rig. It's not the quietest thing, but also not that loud. Good drive.

this drive was probably from an original xbox, this was one of the drive models used.

@Vepe08 yes! , the Xbox used the U series seagate drives . But this one (With the other one that came in the same lot) did not come from an Xbox ,since they had Windows 2000 and xp preinstalled on them
