To the last theory, while I was watching the show and the nameless monster first was told, I felt that Nina was the second nameless monster who was okay with not having a name. It just makes so much sense to the story as well.

It’s representative of how two people deal with trauma differently
@pryce54005 ай бұрын
Here's my take. The nameless are the kids. However, as with the history of anime showed. It was Johan who was nameless given he had to pretend he was his sister. He was okay with this. However, where Johan and Nina differ from the nameless monsters is that ultimately they are switched. Given how Johan internalizes Nina's trauma and thinks it was him that experienced it, and how Nina thinks she was the one waiting. Although I think that the eating of the nameless monster is the representation of it. Johan is a lovely name afterall.

@@outis918no not trauma the monster picture book is supposed to represent Johans nihilism. The monster eats up every & any connection it has to anyone or anything. This embodies the idea of nihilism where every connection & life is meaningless. It also makes sense when u relate it to Johan, when Johan kills ppl he does it with no emotion, because he believes that their lives are “meaningless”. When general wolf found Johan & Anna at the border, he asked Johan how he felt to which he responds with “You will know very soon”. After this he proceeds to to kill off everyone that general wolf ever knew in order to isolate him, so he would have no connections to anyone. When we hear the 511 tape Johan keeps saying over and over that he doesn’t want to forget Anna, that’s because Anna is the one connection he has left & he doesn’t want her to get swallowed up by the monster (Nihilism). Johan also says that it felt like it was just him & Anna left in the world, in the monster book once the monster who went West eats everyone it’s just the monster who went west & the monster who went East left in the world. He also says that the monster inside of him is getting bigger & I think this is supposed to represent the fact that he’s losing his memories due to the experiments & a lot of the meaning & connections to the world he has is being swallowed up with that. In the final arc this is why Johan says that only Tenma will be able to see what he saw, because if Johans plan plays out then Tenma will be all alone, with no meaning or purpose left in the world. Also when the monster who went west comes upon the monster went East, the monster who went West brags about having a name & the monster who went East says that they don’t care if they don’t have a name because they are nameless monsters. The name is supposed to represent purpose & identity. The monster who went West is Constantly trying to find a purpose, but is constantly swallowed up by nihilism. The monster who went East is perfectly fine with not having a purpose. When Johan is disguised as Anna he comes across and orphan named Martin, Martin tells Johan that he is trying to find his mother & that if he saw his mother she would recognize him and he would recognize her. But Johan tells him that his mother gave him up because he wasn’t wanted & therefore his life has no purpose. He sends Martin to go out to a city & if nobody calls out to him then Johan was right & Martin isn’t wanted. The ppl in the city are terrible & do not not treat others with meaning or care in fact they treat martin horribly. This leads Martin to take on Johans nihilistic ideology, we see him crush a butterfly w/ no emotion because life has no meaning so it doesn’t matter if he kills a butterfly. Then he stands on the edge of a bridge & is going to jump off until Grimmer shows up & saves him. When Johan was talking to Martin about not being wanted & therefore having no meaning he was actually talking about himself. In the final episode he tells Dr.Tenma about how his mother gave up Anna to the red rose mansion, but because Johan was dressed up as Anna & neither of them had an identity they looked identical. So he wasn’t sure if his mother mistook Anna for him or if she really meant to give up Anna. Which is why he says “Which one of us wasnt wanted that day, which one of us wasn’t needed” when Anna comes back from the red rose mansion Johan is reading the Nameless Monster picture book, it’s after this point that Johan becomes the monster. Johan is the monster who went West, while Anna is the monster who went East, they both are identical and don’t have identities. Johan searches for an identity & purpose but destroys everything in his path, because of his nihilistic viewpoints of life having no meaning or purpose. While Anna accepts the fact she doesn’t have an identity or purpose. Now if we go back to when Johan tells Anna to shoot him after he kills the Lieberts it makes sense, he does this to prove his viewpoints on life, if she shoots him & he dies than his life is truly meaningless and has no purpose & Anna will have nobody left to call her by her name, just like the monster.

Also the scene where Johan has the two acorns letting nina choose when she realises he’s letting her win on purpose, I feel like this was foreshadowing of the mom giving one of the twins away because either they’re both the same or seen as equals and it can be seen as Johan will do anything for his sister, letting her win and have the best of anything/everything.

I personally heard a theory recently that I have leaned on. The theory goes that Bonaparta manipulated Johan and Anna by having a fake mother choose Anna for the experiment just to see how the children would develop. This theory makes more sense in the manga as the "Mother" has a different nose then the "Real Mother" has at the end of the manga. It would essentially add up completely well as to how the twins were outside. Since they never really escaped but rather were still part of the Eugenics Experiment.

@theoneandonly590 Bonaparta fell in love but the theory still works. This is the reason why he killed everyone involved with the experiment and freed all three.

There's no ambiguity about whether Nina calls him "Johan" at the border; it's just the translator(s) reflexively changing words like onii, ane, etc from direct translations of the words to the addressee's given name. The rest of that theory is fun to think about, though probably the thinnest on substantive evidence. I like the monster Nina theory. I think it looks even clearer on the page that she's saying "I don't want to say... I'm home", at least now that you've pointed it out. I wonder how you'd incorporate that theory with the effects of Bonaparta telling her that she must forget everything she saw that day and that, "Human beings can become anything. You two are beautiful shining jewels. You mustn't become monsters." I think it's crucial that she hadn't communicated that information to Johan, though. If "Monster Nina" is correct, was it intentional? In Nina the monster was successfully submerged thanks to Bonaparta's intervention, but in Johan that intervention never took place.

English is not my language, but I think I know Johan and Nina's real name and that name is Anna for both of them. Let me explain in another moster. Johan's mother had a twin sister who died called Anna and she was traumatized by that. It is very likely that he called them both Anna and in honor of his sister, the story The Monster Awakens is about a child whose name is the same as the most loved person in the world. In this case, the child in the story is Johan and the most loved person. In the world she is Nina whose real name is Anna and like Johan who is also actually called Anna, that is why in the end Johan is completely traumatized since his name has no meaning, all his memories are of his twin sister, his own name. It is the same as his sister's, he has never had nor will he have a name, that is why the author chose twins as the protagonists because twins always have to fight to differentiate themselves from their other twin, but Johan cannot and will never be able to. that's the phrase I am you and you are. Name me if you use my theory I don't want to end up like Johan😉
@happilyevernever42895 ай бұрын
It makes no sense for him to also have the name Anna. And where do you find their mother's long dead twin sister?? Seems to me like you made her up. Johan had to adopt Anna's identity in childhood coz their mom figured it'll be easier to evade those dangerous people if she posed as a mother of only a girl. And it was easier to make Johan wear a wig than have Anna get a haircut so often. Also it is very clear that their names Anna and Johan were given to them when they were with the Leiberts. Even tho their mom wanted to give them names when she was pregnant, for some reason she go throught it after giving birth which is why Johan kept telling Anna at the border that they were nameless. Meaning they had to lie and give people different names when they were with their mom and on the run. My real concern is why she chose not to give them names. Did she do it coz she wanted them to be tools of her revenge or was it because it was easier not to get caught that way if her very young kids didn't accidentally slip up by giving their name to the wrong person?

dont you think theory number 1 and 5 overlap? johan did everything for nina incluiding the massacre, that hypnosis bit might allude to the fact that the monster deep down her knows johan and her are “the same”, thats the reason of her reaction she doesnt want to be johan, she doesnt want to be alive being the same type of monster that he is meanwhile in the other side johan is the one destroying her world on his own because he knows (he thinks he knows) that she would destroy it on her own if left alone because he still thinks they are the same and he doesn’t want her to live that idk thats what i thought 🦭

Man, was that good 🙌🏼 One short theory before the long one: I see a connotation between unnamed and unwanted. Another theory could be that their mother was expecting that the given child wouldn’t survive the experiment, so she dresses both her kids in the fashion of her favorite. That would make Johann unwanted from this moment. So when he gets her painful memories he becomes a lil more her thus a at least a lil more wanted. When you watch e.g. gg healthy gamer’s trauma vids, you’ll see that that traumatized characters are correctly shown. In some cases the traumatized people have problem knowing who they are. Since Anna/Nina and Johann are twins with partly shared traumata this is even more interesting. Especially because one pillar of trauma therapy is to really connect to other people in order to be able to really connect to one’s self. Ok, that’s it 🤷🏻♀️ bye 🤗😘

@azlansarwary90855 ай бұрын
I honestly don’t believe the Johan Johan theory, because my perception of the ending is quite complex, and if the Johan Johan theory was true, then it would kind of ruin the show. I believe that Johan is the monster, and not the true name of “Johan”. The monster isn’t inside of Johan, but outside of Johan. And…well…the people that influenced Johan to become a monster aren’t monsters themselves either. The monster in the story is an idea, and not a person. I think when Johan’s true name was given, he realized that he wasn’t a monster after all, giving the best ending I’ve experienced in any work of fiction so far.

Theory 4 + 5 don't really apply because we shoudl stick more to the Japanese original. In the Japanese Manga, when Nina was lying on the ground, she used the words "Onii-san" and not "Johan" Plus, the "I don't want to say I'm home" phrase would have been in a different order in Japanese. We can ditch these theories as they only make sense in English.
