Went to 10-50 Earthwood strings a couple years ago on my Seagull Natural Element mini Jumbo. Lowered the action considerably (sand the saddle) and it is like a whole new guitar. 11's on this guitar for me were too heavy, part of that due to too high action. Now they might be fine. Great video.

I have a Seagull S6 and had the exact same issue. The action on that thing seemed like a half inch or more. I did the same thing in sanding down the saddle. It took multiple goes at it as I didn't want to overdo it. However, worked like a charm and it now plays and sounds great. Love the guitar.

Timely! I just bought two, yes two, Seagulls. The first was a too cheap to ignore S6 classic, and the second the S6+CW cutaway I had been looking for. But BOTH needed the saddles shaved. The S6+CW also needed some truss adjustments. And I agree they are LOUD!

I went down to 11's on my most excellent old Ibanez Artwood. It's been my baby since 2006. For a Chinese guitar, it's very good. It came with a really well cut nut and that made all the difference. I didn't know that till i started watching Dave. Since then, i've built several guitars and just finished a fret level, re-crown and polish on the Ibanez and i'm in love all over again. Thanks for the inspiration, my friend.

Had a Seagull Model S (that's what the label said). Good sounding guitar! Only problem was the scarf joint holding the headstock to the neck weakened over time (I didn't know what a scarf joint was back then, never mind what was happening to my guitar). Just got harder & harder to keep it in tune. One day I was retuning for the 50th time and heard CRACK! And history. It met with the corner of my radiator 6 or 7 times, then became wall art until I moved out of that apartment.

Seagulls are great guitars. I've owned 3. Two of the sws maritime like in the video and one of the artist series higher end models. All were great but they all came set up like not at all. Very high action. The saddles were all very high. I'm assuming they figure everyone has their own preferences so leave the action high and you can always lower it. Once they get dialed in through they are great sounding guitars. They sound much better than other guitars in the price range in my opinion. The maritime sws version is the best solid wood guitar you can get at the price. I bought mine in like 2016 so the sws's were like 600 in the US. You can't beat that. Godin is great too. I owned a summit classic (LP style). Awesome guitar. I wish I still had it.

Even though it’s a bolt on neck it cannot be removed. In 2005 Godin bolted and use epoxy to attach the necks. Prior to 2005 the necks could have been removed by removing the two bolts and heating the fret board extension. This current system does not allow a neck reset because the of the addition of epoxy.
@davidperry23054 жыл бұрын
Neck isn't a bolt-on. It's epoxied in place. There is a bolt, but it's only there to hold the neck in place until the epoxy cures.

I own a Seagull S6. I've played dozens of guitars made by the biggest kid on the block, Martin. Can't tell you how many had terrible string actions until they were set up properly. Bad Q C? My S6 has 7 one thousandths at the 21st fret. Right outta the box..But most of my playing is on the "Cowboy Frets" (1st 5 frets on fret board). But its nice to know the S6 has great intonation. No I don't think so. I'm 55 years old and I grew up in Montreal and I got my first Norman acoustic (B-20) when I was 13. If you aren't aware, Norman is the predecessor to the Seagull company. From La Patrie Quebec. The guitar that I have been playing for 42 years now (actually I own two of them now) are both the original models that were made before they had the huge fire that destroyed Norman's main buildings. I know the entire history of that company. Those Normans (the ones with the bolt on necks because that was what Norman was doing its initial years in the first place, they were known as neck builders) were the best they ever made and rival anything that came out of that place since then. I have played many of the Seagull guitars and I find that they are simply not that great. There are a lot better guitar you can get for that money. But saying what you said is silly because one day you're going to pick up a Martin or some other high-end acoustic guitar and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
@formula734 жыл бұрын
Joe still presumptuous. You don’t know me. You don’t know how long I’ve been playing nor what I have played. I’m glad you found an acoustic you like better but I have not-not vintage Gibsons, Guilds, nor Martins. Now, just accept different people like dfferent things and MOVE ALONG.
@TheGadgettracker4 жыл бұрын
@@formula73 Gotta agree with you about the quality of recent Seagulls. I have several AMERICAN-MADE Martin's, (up to a D-35), Taylor's and Guilds. The Seagulls are my favorites. My Seagulls are the upper series, but even the lowly Entourage Parlor guitar is wonderful and sounds great for what it is. If you own a Seagull, don't let anyone shame you into thinking you've got a sub-par instrument. There is no place for grade school bullying over what is a fine alternative to off-shore, and sometimes domestic, instruments. The only time I would choose an American-made instrument over a Seagull is for the resale value.

Don't buy a Seagull. I bought an S6, which I rarely played. The first time I went to change strings, the little white plastic washers under the tuning keys were broken. Clearly, the keys had been torqued much too tightly during assembly, but Seagull refused to send me a new set of those washers. Multiple emails to the company about the issue have been ignored. They would rather lose a customer than send out a set of plastic washers that cost them pennies. This is the very definition of arrogant, apathetic customer service. They do not deserve your business. Buy another brand.

Why do you suppose almost all of the guitars you service have their string action too high? Is it that some people like playing them that way?
@kostaskritsilas26814 жыл бұрын
A lot of people don’t get their guitars set up properly, assuming that the guitars are good to go out if the box. The factories always set the guitars up with a high action, to ensure no fret buzzing.

@taimaishu-nao19224 жыл бұрын
I’m not Dave but I’d recommend at least 24-48 hours to allow for any guitar to adjust to any and all changes to humidity. Sweetwater recommend that amount of time on every guitar they sell out of their campus in Indiana so if a big name guitar store recommends that amount of time, I’d say that’s a good measure for you to use.

The first band I was in the guitar player did a few songs solo acoustic. He had a Seagull that he had cut down. It was the weirdest thing. He was a guitar guy still is... But in South New Jersey in 1986 Seagull was an unknown brand and I was further confused about his "thin body" acoustic. He also built his own Telecasters and then he beat them up so bad... I was confused... Then after every show some yob would come up and say, "I love your old Telecaster, you must have had that a long time!" I was laughing my beer out my nose... Then I said to my guitar player "Why you son of a birch!" And laughed some more... Then I tried playing his Telecasters... He set his guitars up with heavy gauge strings AND high action! I used 11's on my guitars he must have used 13's... And yes that rascal bent strings... Broke them all too... I have to have tens on electric and acoustic now... I may have to go lighter. I have to play bass again and I'm going to have to go lighter there too... I hope I don't have to go too light. My hands are bad... Too many years of punching and slapping solid surfaces... Too much slapping the dugan!😂
