Wonderful instruments from my favorite maker. My Godin Icon's twin hangs on the wall behind him. My entry drug was a cedar S6. My Fifth Avenue is simply delightful. And the more you learn about the Godin company, the more you like them.

I own a a Seagull Coastline S6 Slim CW Spruce QI. I bought this guitar 9 years ago and it has been through hell. I play it in the house as well as outside in the Hot humid environment of the Texas Gulf Coast and with just general care and maintenance it has performed without fail. She has yellowed from 9 yrs of life but to be truthful the tone has really come to be outstanding. I have many musician friends that are in awe of the tone and sustain of this guitar . JOB WELL DONE !

thank you for this, I am in the market for a new guitar. You taught me the difference in solid wood vs laminated, Cedar vs spruce and I still like the spruce but now appreciate the cedar better. My first acoustic was a Seagull S6 Original. Since then I bought a Martin D35. My Seagull gets played every day and my ears love the sound, my hands love the feel and my Martin collects dust. I like my Martin, but my Seagull was 1/5 th the price and I like it better. Take what you want from that but it’s amazing how this company can make such a quality product at th the price point they do.

Same here. Got a cedar top S6 for my 18th birthday from my mom. I'm in my middle thirties now and it's one of only two acoustics that I've managed to hold onto. Has its share of dings but the top and sides still have that lovely silky finish and the back is absolutely gorgeous. As he said, it actually took awhile to wear in, have the neck adjust to my preferred string gauge, which is a little heavier (nothing a little truss rod and saddle adjustment can't fix). Wouldn't part with it for anything. That said, my Kazuo Yairi parlor is absolutely one of a kind and a far superior instrument, but it should be, as it's a custom shop. One of a kind.

I bought a Seagull S6 Original Slim from a guy for only $160. There were no strings on it so I couldn't even try it out. When I got home, I noticed the nut was gone, and the pegs were not in. Thankfully the guy gave me the pegs. I had bought a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup system and installed it by drilling a couple of holes. I had to cut in a nut slot at the top because it didn't have one. I used some kind of granite stone for the nut which worked really well. I glued that in then had to file down the saddle quite a ways to lower the string's action. I had to file into the nut the string slots. After that was done, I strung it up multiple times because I kept having to fine tune the string height via filing down the saddle and nut string slots and I changed the truss rod a bit. Finally, it was time to check it out, but there was a problem. I had wired the Fishman pickup wrong so it wasn't grounded. I had to unstring it, fix the wiring, then I restrung it. I wasn't expecting much, but I played it. Absolutely beautiful! The best guitar I've ever played not plugged in and really great through a pickup system. It was super loud, clear, and pristine sounding. Seagull gets my vote as one of the best guitar companies out there.

I've been playing a Seagull Artist Series Cutaway with Cedar top for the past ten years and absolutely love the warmth and playability. I agree with many of the comments here in terms of quality and sound you get in the Seagull Artist Series for so much less than Martin and other leading brands. Between my Seagull and Parker I feel I have my forever guitars.

Excellent video! This guy is very knowledgeable and personable. He makes a great factory rep for Godin. The guitarist 'Doyle Dykes' he speaks of that is working with Godin is originally from the area I live here in north Florida USA. He is a monster thumb style guitarist and a master of the Merle Travis/Chet Atkins style. I am impressed with the Godin line, both acoustic and electric. I plan to purchase one of their acoustics right away. How about that metallic blue archtop with the Bigsby.... I'd love to have that baby!

I was impressed by the S6 series when comparing it to a Taylor and Martin. It sounded a tiny bit less jangly but sounded a league or two better than anything I could test at Guitar Center at that price range. The S6 definitely stacks up with the more expensive American made guitars.

I played my friends Seagull and was blown away at how easy it was to play.. it felt like an electric! I have a Guild and it tires my fretting hand out and is hard to do bends on.. not at all with the Seagull. And it had a "snappyness" to it.. is the best way I could describe.

I bought an Art & Lutherie Cedar Sunrise about 9 years ago. It's Seagull's slightly less "refined" (and slightly cheaper :0) brother. I went into a local store in Ottawa Canada and tried a collection of guitars from a comparable price to the A&L all the way up to a thousand dollar brand name. What I noticed immediately, was that most of the guitars were made offshore in the far east. Only when I got to 3 times the price of the A&L did I get to some made in N. America. The sound of the Godin Guitars I tried were far and away better again until you got to 3 times the price! There was some difference amongst the Godin brands, so since budget was important, the A&L was my choice. I have one minor complaint ... I would have liked the neck to be a tiny bit wider since I have long fingers. The flip side of that is that I can wrap my thumb around to fret chords on the 6th string :-) I have NO hesitation to recommend Godin acoustics ... You are getting excellent sound and value for money.

@s.c.7370
@s.c.7370 4 жыл бұрын
@@barisd.3878 I am from Quebec, I had the luck to try many Godin. Mini Jumbo is a great all-round guitar. Not as bassy or punchy as a Dread, but more volume than a Concert Hall and a great balanced tone. I will take one for a big voice fingerpicker. It is a lot more comfortable than a Dread too ! A dread is better suited for flatpicking and strumming. If you like how it looks and sound, buy one. You can't go wrong. A cedar topped 1.8" nut MJ will be a dream to fingerpick and warm like nothing else. The two best shapes of Godin are Mini Jumbo and Folk in my opinion. And they are original.

Seagull/Godin make some of the best guitars in the industry. You can get a great sound without selling a kidney to buy a great guitar! I own a S6 CW and a Artist series cutaway. I have a 2006 Seagull MJ M6 CW that I was told was a solid cedar top with a solid mahogany back and laminated mahogany sides with the inside being cherry. It's a well built guitar but even with new strings it has always sounded a little muted to me. I rarely play it over one of my five other choices. I actually prefer my Ovation acoustic electric over my others but for no other reason than that I' lazy and don't mind a string change on the Ovation when needed because no pegs to pull out! Anyway, no denying Seagulls are built well but I think I'd like a different wood for brighter sound over the one I traded for years back. I've had this one since 2008 so it isn't like I intend to get rid of it but honestly it's good sounding but not great sounding. Mine has a very flat neck on the back side and it seems wide as a neck on a guitar goes and that took me years to adjust to to be honest but it is nicer for finger style playing over my others.

I played all the big names within 800 dollar price range .I didn't like anything .I gave up.I found a jem at the pawn shop .I checked the serial number.Its unknown .Have no idea what year it is .Whoever had this guitar played the hell out of it .Deep pick grooves.This guitar is the best I have played .Yes the older it is the more resonance you will receive .I didn't know too much about cedar but am well aware of it now !! Heads up .S6

I bought a Seagull and for some reason, I suck at playing it compared to other acoustics(particularly strumming). I can't tell if it is the strings or the weird thickness of the body type. I am sure it is a great guitar, but being the novice I am, probably should have bought a beginner one..

I have the same question. It would be nice to know the model of each guitar played throughout so make our choices easier. Thanks Leigh Music :)

I wish he had stated which model each guitar was, instead of just talking about what they're made from. His old S&P was great but what model was it? It looked like it was made from Mahogany.

I always liked the idea of a guitar from this manufacturer. Something about it being made in Canada. I went for a woodland pro solid wood parlour guitar. It arrived and I was so disappointed. Felt horrible, was poorly finished and the electronics were different to what was on the website. Had to return it. Maybe I was unlucky. However will never buy another.

Use Elixir strings on a Seagull S-6. . . . . They need to make a single cutaway with a Cedar top though . . . . .

Some years ago,I was considering a Seagull Jumbo acoustic.Luckily during my research I found a factory tour video of Seagull and was horrified to see the necks of guitars being epoxied in place.This is an unacceptable practice for any manufacturer of guitars as in time when a neck reset is required,it will not be possible.So on that basis I decided to avoid Seagull guitars as if they were a source of Covid..................................................

@TO FALL UPWARDS sometimes guitars need to be set up by a luthier/repairman....even right out of the box....try to find someone to take it to and have them lower the action....its a very simple procedure and will make the guitar play great.

@TO FALL UPWARDS yes...needing a set up is very common....I have had to redo setups myself! What is considered playable by one person is not for another....they NEVER setup a guitar with action as low as I like and I sand down the saddle and adjust the truss rod myself.....sometimes people "play for years" and do not know this.....I was NOT trying to be condescending but trying to be helpful.....you said yourself you did not know this was a thing.......if I can help anyone....I do.....I have spent over 2 grand on a guitar and had to redo the setup myself.....I tell them to slide a quarter under the 12th fret and they NEVER do.....Im 60 and have many health issues and have issues with my hands so this is a subject Im very familiar with......I don't " talk down" to people......I have played in bands...played solo gigs.....and hosted open mics for over 40 years.....Im not some smart ass kid who likes to flame people on the internet...
