Mike Macdonald's first year was absolutely a success! No ifs, ands or buts about it. We went from bottom 5 defense to top 5 in the same season against the second toughest slate of opposing offenses any team faced in the NFL, and produced a winning season with one of the toughest schedules a Seahawks team has faced in ages. And we did so changing our linebackers out half way through! Incredible job. We had to not only face our own very talented and well coached division but also the historically incredible NFC North this year, as well as the Bills! Brutal. And we did all this with the 4th toughest net rest differential in the league. This team is improved in just about every way from the previous year, and yes that includes on offense if you look at the advanced stats. We have glaring issues on the OL which causes a ton of other downstream issues, but we know what those problems are now and what it will take to fix them. Compare that to the listless and lost feeling of the last two Carroll years where both the offense and defense were mostly statistically at the bottom of the league in spite of immense talent and the team had no discernible direction. This offseason I see a clear vision forward (we know what's wrong and what to do to fix it and what's right and how to continue and build on it) and armed with that knowledge we can grow into a dark horse contender by next year and a true contender the year after for my money. I see a lot of complaining from fans, which I disagree with and find personally frustrating, but I chalk that up to just intense passion and the sting of disappointment seeing that we could have genuinely won this division this year. Remember before the season how most fans expressed a desire to just have 8-9 wins with our rookie coach and mostly all new staff facing one of the NFL's most brutal schedules? We all just wanted to see a vision for the team going forward, to see JSN break out or start to, and the defense to become a top unit again, and we got all that and more. Barring a few mistakes, we left 2-3 wins on the table! The future is bright, Mike Macdonald is the man, and I could not be more excited for the future of our Seahawks. Now let's do our part as fans and deliver that legendary home field advantage again by showing up next year and being loud as hell.

The Seahawks met or exceeded a lot of fans expectations. Vegas had them at 7 wins, Most fans at 8 to 10 wins. They SHOULD finish 10-7 under a first-year staff. I think they are headed in the right direction. I know that a lot of shade has been thrown at Grubb, but everyone expected, even Mr. Corbin, that it may be a learning curve to adapt his game to the NFL. I have heard that he is a really smart guy and it wouldn't shock me if he did a lot of growth in the offseason. He has been in the NFL for less than 1 year and had an underperforming interior offensive line. I like where this team is going and I hope next year we are able to capitalize on the "Geno Window" before it closes. Go Hawks.

I give him a solid B+ and we are excited for the future! Remember how bad our run defense was last year 😅

Learned he needs to pivot to a big boy offense and will have to provide adult supervision to the talent acquisition side of the org, but should be able address both and build on a solid 1st year

I wonder how much success Grubb would have had with a decent o line. His passing game was special, especially in the first half with the motions

A success !!! Absolutely amazing season 👏 I'm excited for the future, a blue chip player or 2 in the draft and a couple of hits in free agency.......the future is very bright for the Seahawks.

As a defensive coordinator in the first year of team building b+ as a head coach C. He needs to gain more offensive philosophy and make sure his oC is carrying out the philosophy on his end. And be able to help him when struggling. He has a lot to learn about offense which is surprising for someone who needs to understand what OCs think to gameplan against them so well. You would think he would have answers for grubb “they are doing this to you, try this”

Winning 9 games so far with Geno Smith as your QB is a huge success. Should be more games, but you know, the 34 year old journeyman would hold most teams back
@DanlowMusic19 күн бұрын
Definitely a success. The team has been sputtering for years. I think we are tearing down and rebuilding right now while fighting and scrapping for a better future. Ernest Jones was a huge get in the middle of the season and a definite building block for the future of our D. Grubb, while I like his pass play calls, really wish he would try to run more. I get tired of the excuse of why he doesn't. It really comes down to run attempts and they don't put enough runs in there to even give the RB's a chance.
@RainerGolden19 күн бұрын
Agreed. I think they didn’t run as much in short yardage because of low confidence from the OL to get adequate push. I think Grubb figured that, while in a best practice sense ill advised, considering personnel the best chance at a successful play was a pass play.

Successful season. The only way it could possibly have been better was to make the playoffs. Be that as it may. I think it was a success. The Seahawks future is bright if they can draft an offensive line. GO HAWKS!!

0:01 can't make a judgment yet. His first season will be determined as a success or failure depending solely on who is appointed OC.

Get Vikings' QB Coach Josh McCown as the new OC. He would be a game changer!
@Longdistance-b3m18 күн бұрын
Mike Macdonald 1st season is 💯 a success! Now Seattle just needs to hire Vikings' QB Coach Josh McCown as OC and let McCown develop a young QB. No to resigning Geno Smith. Smith is an older QB that is regressing like Kirk Cousins situation in Atlanta.

Not one win against one good team and home field advantage is long gone. But I’m confident next year will improve as long as we get rid of Geno and woolen.

@Zorn7619 күн бұрын
@spencermccorkle7606 3-6 @ Lumen, including a loss to Daniel Jones, is a legitimate gripe. Coach Mike had a fine yr 1, but the Rookie OC didn't help & the Seahawks should have been better at Home.

Success for Mike Macdonald. Failure for Ryan Grubb.

Corbin, it feels like whatever way the wind blows, or depending on if we won or lost from week to week, that's how you think! I was very impressed with what Grubb did, considering the fact he had a John Schnider Offensive line to work with! how are you going to run the ball coming out of the gate in the first Quarter if the other team knows thats your plan and they stack the Box! Sometimes you have to throw to set up the run! Every year, everybody wants to run the Offensive coordinator out of town but without a Offensive line every body looks BAD!

Any season that we miss the playoffs is a failure. I saw some good things from McDonald but he shouldn't be completely off the hook just because it's his first season

Seahawks had a very good season a top 10 defense . Mike had his hands all over this team. Two more drafts under mike this will be a contender. Go hawks!

Bad OL doesn't make you throw it to the other team. That's the thing the should get Geno fired. 6 red zone INTs. His INT are team crushing. You bring him back he'll be ok. But you'll have to put up with head scratching INTs. It hurt Geno his whole career.

I don't exactly view Mike Macdonald's coaching as a success of a failure, but it was alright. My problem from what I've seen from him is he's a pretty timid coach, which is to be expected considering he was the defensive coordinator for the ravens. He doesn't throw enough red flags, I saw One red flag thrown at a home game in Seattle, I was there. I don't necessarily think he was a failure because of missed ref calls on the enemy team, and Geno Smith constantly throwing interceptions. Two things I'd like to see next season, is Macdonald's being more forceful about throwing red flags, maybe even playing the penalties to his advantage properly, and a quarterback that doesn't choke. I'd rate them both at best as average.

John Schneider is the failure every free agent was a miss won't try to fix the line The vikings brought in 25 free agents we sign players that want a new contract a year after we pay them like geno what a loser he will never win more than 10 games Schneider has got to go

The only way Mike McDonalds continues the growth of Deattle. He must create his team , not Pete Carrol team. When we see 75% of Mike players you’ll be true success.

It was decent… Success would have been winning the division by taking advantage of a weakened NFC West. Not trying to be pessimistic but it’s hard to be rah-rah when we are still dropping winnable games.

The roster wasn't as good as it looked on paper. OL was never going to let them be good. It took to long for changes. If the OL gets better so will Seattle.

I don't care that we may not get a QB who will play as well as Geno has, he's still mediocre and we need a chance to improve. GENO is not going to get better and in 2 years or so when we are able to compete for championships Geno will be old and past his prime, and if we have to pay him a ton of money we won't be able to fix the real big problems on this team. If we want to stay at maybe making the playoffs a 9 to 10 win team with no real chance of going deep, then ya keep him, if we want a chance for greatness we need someone younger with upside. Fix the O-line, use DK to get as much as we can, he's getting old and injuries are nagging him, plus he still can't catch with his hands, can't run the route tree, fumbles and attitude problems, we can get a much cheaper deep threat, maybe not as good but I don't want to see us pay top 5 receiver pay for a not top 5 player. Moves need to be made to take us to that next level. Some will have to go so we can get what and who we need.

Love what mike is doing with this defense hes doing all he can with petes leftovers. im very curious to see what MIKES team will look like in the future when he finally gets HIS guys in here. Offensive line is clearly the worst part of this team and honestly get rid of grubb and bring in an experienced nfl playcaller
