After the first season of Carroll's term as Seahawks coach, I was on vacation in Italy and while on a train talked to a guy from San Diego. We talked about football and he was concerned about the Chargers relocating (poor guy) but he was also a USC fan and assured me that Pete Carroll was going to do great things for my team. When we won the Superbowl I immediately thought about that conversation and I'm thinking about it now. Best coach our team ever had. Now because of his age I figured it was only a matter of time before we would get a new coach, but this still is hitting hard. Can't help but feel if we had beat the Steelers two weeks ago and got into the playoffs that maybe we would have gotten another year with Pete. The Seahawks mattered with Holmgren and with Carroll and that coincidently means that we've mattered throughout the 21st century thus far. But I can't help but think of what the franchise was like before that. With a change like this you can't help but fear you go back into a dark age. Anyway, I'm suddenly much more interested in the coaching vacancies. This isn't the same as following Bill Belichick in New England but it's still a huge act to follow. Now I'm thinking of the possibility of Jim Harbaugh replacing Pete and how ironic that would be after all the bad blood between the two of them. Maybe Pittsburgh will lose on Sunday and they'll fire Tomlin and we can get him. With my luck Sirianni will get fired and we'll get stuck with him.

I love him, I always will. He is a legend and the best coach in Seahawks history. Things were good for the Hawks since he started, he turned things around. But the last 2-3 years hasn't been working. Sometimes, change is necessary. Hawks have to change everything. Mainly, let's become more offensive-minded; let's stop being so predictable in our offensive and defensive schemes; throw the ball more; go back to a 4-3 defense; stop relying on miracle 4th quarter wins after being down 2.5 scores the entire game; close out games in the 3rd quarter so you can have an easy 4th quarter; go for it more on 4th down; more discipline versus motivation. Let's get Dan Quinn, bring him back home.

Coached the #1 scoring defense for 4 or 5 years in a row running the same defensive cover 3 look 90% of Snaps. He had the players and coached them to perfect thag scheme. He should definitely be in the hall of fame especially after he helped revive Geno Smith career. 3 years ago after the Russ trade EVERY pundit laughed off the idea of starting the season with only Geno and Lock on the roster. Vegas had them at 4 wins, and they made the playoffs. Actually were winning at halftime against the 49ers in that WC game too. Have to give the coach major credit for never actually have a rebuilding year. Every year was competitive. Almost every game was competitive. In his 14 years I think his teams got blown out maybe 3 or 4 times total. Every other loss were like 1 possession games

Big respect to him for what he did in leading the LOB into greatness in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, BUT the bad taste in everyone's mouth since 2015 cannot go ignored. Putting it bluntly: GOOD RIDDANCE! This team needs huge change and a reboot of (new) leadership. Some of us will never forget the betrayal committed to the fans, and even more importantly, the entirety of the team, when Pete oversaw the most infamous and bone-headed play call in Super Bowl history that took place in 2015 against the New England Patriots. That most ridiculous play call lost the city and the team a chance for a first ever dynasty in the city of Seattle. Why on earth, Pete, did you not give the ball to Beastmode? Since that ugly day and poor call of play, this team just hasn't been able to pull off any semblance of greatness, nor has the team ever been the same or even remotely close to it. It will be interesting to hear the gossip of who is close to likely getting the HC opening. Is Dan Quinn (spelling) a real possibility?

Love Pete but it seems he's run out of ideas when comparing him to the better younger coaches around the league.I will miss his enthusiasm on the sidelines .The man is of an exceedingly rare type I hope he stays in the public view in some capacity-thanks Pete already missing you

Hawk fan from the very beginning. Pete be the man! And for awhile, he was one of the very best at his job. But lately, Seattle's defense became utterly anemic. And for some reason, they never really qued up a consistent offense. With those wide recievers/tightends and a pretty decent running back corp, the Hawks should have been much stronger offensively. Geno is a great second string qb. Not sure how good Locke is. But it starts at the top and Pete failed to make adjustments, both offensively and defensively. I love his enthusiasm, but a chanve was needed. And I've still not forgiven him for not giving Marshawn the rock on the most important moment. Russ was a game manager, not Joe Montana!

Denny Crum stayed with Louisville long after he was terminated as head coach when they hired Rick Pitino. I attended in the mid-90s. Denny Crum and Joe B Hall had a long-running radio show. Pete should podcast.

It's all a downward spiral for Seattle from here. You do not demote someone and expect the same intensity that Mr Carol brought to the Seahawks franchise. Bad move! Fire him or keep him on there is no middle ground in the NFL.

I mean absolutely. As a diehard Hawks fan (and I was tuned in during the 90s, EVERY game, pissed my Dad couldn't find it on the radio) Pete Carroll is the best coach we've ever had. Two SBOWLs, won one, a powerhouse in the NFC for YEARS. Made fans of other NFC teams angry, etc. This was a great coach. He did amazing things and IMO he should be in the HOF. And SO SHOULD WILSON, WAGNER, SHERMAN, etc. These guys should all be there. That said, time to let it go. I know it sucks, but stop taking off a Band-Aid that should've come off 3 weeks ago. Let's do it right. It has to end. The Patriots meanwhile, have not gotten this message (which is fantastic lol).
