Seal Crippled by Fishing Line

Another gill net entanglement! Maybe this one and yesterday's seal have been hanging out in the same area, but there is also a good chance that our oceans are simply full of different and unrelated pieces of illegal gill net. The rescue takes only a few seconds and saves the seal from facing a slow and painful end. The rescuers from OCN are immediately off to the next rescue - this time a piece of fishing line. The line is wrapped around a tiny pup's flippers, head and neck, affecting his every movement. Luckily his suffering is over, he is released back into the ocean once all loops have been cut. 🦭

@@judithmcbride4023 Judith, they appreciate your well wishes, but they NEED donations. I just ordered 2 cups a T-shirt a plaque and donated $50. Anything you can give helps these wonderful people and their mission to save these injured animals. They have PayPal and a secure website for credit card donations. Give up a beer or a hamburger to support their cause. Even $5 helps if enough caring people do it. You will sit back after you do and feel better than you have in a very, very long time.

@carschmn. Yes a little warning snarl of indignation Then more and more seals seem to relax and ‘help’ the rescuers. The other sound I love is when their chests expand with a gasp when the obstructing strands are cut. Sound is an important part of the viewer’s experience isn’t it. I wonder if that contributes to the approx 25% of viewers registering a like. It’s higher than a couple of other good sites I follow.

James, many of us, like me, don't drink beer or alcohol, and I've been vegetarian for fifty years and so don't eat hamburgers or fast food, or even drink soda pop. I live below poverty level, live a simple life, but still do my volunteer work... and I've never asked for donations,. I was intent on buying one of their hoodies as a winter solstice treat for myself, since my sweaters are all falling apart and I have no sweats, but although most comments were happy with what they received, some reviews were only one or two stars said the logo wasn't printed in the right place, shoddy workmanship, or fell eroded when washed, wasn't the right color, or the item stank. Another few said the company wouldn't respond when they tried to contact them to rectify the issues. So I'm reluctant to buy. You're right that all rescues need donations, though. Food, medicine, water, laundry, kiddy pools, cages, chlorhexidine, protective gear, vet bills, sterile dressings, baby food and specialty diets.. too much to mention here... Wildlife rehabilitation is a calling, and money is always in short supply. But I don't need to "sit back and feel better than I have in a long time" because I've been a full-time wildlife rehabilitator myself for 40 years. I've sacrificed a lot. Many of us do. Don't assume or condemn people you don't know. By the way, you omitted sacrificing recreational drugs and cancer sticks, to give a donation instead. Tobacco or nicotine in any form are particularly offensive. I've never smoked, don't use drugs, but am under the impression they're both very expensive, disgusting, unnecessary habits. So sacrificing a pack of lethal cigarettes could become a sizable donation for all the equipment, repairs, fuel, and maintenance they need for their work. Viewers can "pray" as much as they want, but that won't tangibly help rehabbers at all. As the Arabs used to say, "Trust in god, but tie up your camel." Or as their bible says, "Render unto Caesar what is his, and unto god what is his." In other words, you can pray and send a donation at the same time... they're not mutually exclusive. 😉 We viewers aren't all sitting on our duffs, being selfish or lost in the ozone. Some do this same work. Some are poor, some are sick (especially since covid and now the yearly flu and RSV), some are unemployed or have family crises. Every story is different. But I could've used a sweatshirt, haven't had one in decades. It's okay to encourage viewers to send donations, but condemnation isn't going to encourage folks.

It would be so wonderful if those ruining the earth by nets, garbage and pollution, were made to stop and as you know that Revelation 11 v 18 shows that God will stop the earth from being ruined. then these beautiful magnificent creatures will enjoy friendship with mankind. could you let me know what you think will happen please? and may God bless you! x

@ 1:20 & 3:25 ( am I anthropomorphizing ?) That surely looks like GLEE on their faces and JOY in their step as the pups RUN FREE into the Sea ! This team fits together like pieces of a puzzle. All working so beautifully together, but with their own individual attributes. They make it look a lot easier than it is! I would imagine the nets are heavy and it takes a lot of strength and flexibility to secure a seal fighting not to get caught. That first pup looked like it jerked from pain. The 2nd one was in a terrible mess! How lucky they were to be in such good hands and now they are free!!! A shout out to Denzel for his speedy catches! Thank you, Seal Whisperers, for helping these beautiful animals that need you so desperately. 👏👏👏❣❣❣💐💐💐
