Poor little guy... He must have ended up there after the ice floes melted... At that point, he was already abandoned by his mother and at the stage of weanerhood... I hope he eventually started hunting for his own fish... Such a difficult and critical time for a young pup...

Yup, and being exposed to people wasn't great for the pups. But the constant presence of families at the beach was making coyotes wary about going there. I had stopped at other beaches that day and pups there weren't so lucky.

The system would fall into equilibrium if left alone, as noted above. Just like deer and wolf populations. It is tampering by the humans that fucks it all up. The seals are not to blame.

agree w/you Casey!!!! I have learned like so many animals, seals are being hunted and killed for their coat, and in some cases, their meat. Not interested in wearing animal fur, and I learned that Canada's government allows this. It really is a shame. I don't believe seals or even harp seals for that matter should or are to blame for the declining of fish stock and if that were the reason for the government to allow people to hunt these creatures then I must say they need to wake up, I am not sure if currently these animals are becoming extinct but I sure hope this continuation of seal slaughter does not make them an endangered species. The slaughter of seals need to stop; I have said the same thing about elephants being hunted for their tusk, and even other marine animals; But I totally agree w/you.. love your video too.

In relation to your description the seals area major cause of declining fish stocks due to an over population of 6 million+, unfortunately the delicate balance of the ecosystem that you speak of was thrown of kilter many many years ago with the mass killings of many species of whale in the North Atlantic during the New England whale fishery. The seals are very harmful but it is greatly due to the effects of man.

It can't fall into equilibrium again for the simple fact that the predators that controlled the seals no longer exists in this part of the world, it's sad but it's the truth. I'd did state that the seals are harmful, which they are you can ask any marine biologist and they will tell you the same, but it is our fault that they got that way.
